Maxwell is such a hoot these days and every day is an adventure. Case in point – by 9am yesterday Maxwell managed to lock himself in the bathroom. Locked as in ‘threw the dead bolt style lock that I didn’t even know worked’ locked. After a frantic 20 minutes on the phone with Robert trying to figure out how to get him out, I ended up having to call a locksmith who drilled a hole in the door and was able to unlock the bolt.
Once he was out, Maxwell thought it was great and loved seeing all of the locksmith’s tools. For the rest of the day he was saying “that man got me out!” Never a dull moment around here! In addition, the things that come out his mouth are usually pretty darn funny. And when said in that sweet-as-pie little toddler voice…well, he makes me laugh at lot.
Some of his favorite things to say right now:
“I like it a lot”
“He real nice”
“Me no like that” – usually in reference to some sort of food I’m trying to give him!
“That’s plenty” – clearly because I’m already telling him he doesn’t need more and he has plenty of whatever it is.
“Right noooooow” – he wants everything right now!
He now says his name “Maswell” but also says his name is “Max” about half the time. I think they must call him that at school sometimes? He also knows that Dad’s name is “Rovert” and my name is “Tephie”. It’s HILARIOUS to us to get him to say this.
He knows Spencer’s name is Spencer but he doesn’t usually call him that as he has a variety of nicknames for him. The main one being “ya ya”. He always refers to Spencer as ya ya and it’s become so commonplace that I probably refer to Spencer as ya ya half the time too! Maxwell will also call him “chubby” and “fatty”…clearly terms of endearment he’s picked up on from us!! ๐ The best though is “Spencer Willy”. It’s really more like “Pencer Willy” and it might be the single funniest thing I’ve heard. We think it came from a combination of us saying “Spencer Wencer” and “Silly Willy” and Maxwell just made it his own with “Pencer Willy”.
He’ll also cheer his brother on by saying “come on little guy” or “come on buddy” when he’s trying to roll over or calm down. He also loves to tell me “he fussy!” when Spencer starts crying.
He’s started saying both “oh man!” and “oh dude!” when something is spilled or he’s disappointed when we don’t see the yellow trucks we want to see, etc.
He refers to anything that happened in the past as “last night”. As in, “That man got me out of the bathroom last night!” when it really happened that morning.
He loves to tell me to “fill dat up” when putting his food on his plate. He wants each compartment to be full of food!
When we were talking to my parents on Face Time on the phone last week, he kept saying “me get in phone?” He thought since we could actually see GJ and Daddo on the phone that they were in the phone and he wanted to get in with them!!
He’s also very good at please and thank you. I need to start working on “ma’am and sir” next!
My two little bears…
One thing is for sure, Maxwell really does love Spencer. He always wants to know where his “ya ya” is and loves to tell people that Spencer is HIS ya ya. He’s always trying to (unsuccessfully) pick him up and loves to lay on top of him and bury his head into his belly. He also likes to see how much he can get away with and hit on poor Spencer and poke him in the belly. Aaah, brothers!
As frustrating as 2 years old can be, it’s also the absolute best. I love this little guy and his funny personality. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Two year olds can be the best and funniest – love all of his little sayings – enjoy – they will go away too fast as he learns more and more. So glad he got out of the bathroom!

You’ll be so happy that you are recording M’s “isms”. “isms” are the best. He’s talking so well and seems to be quite the chatterbox. ๐

Talk about putting a smile on your face!
