Football Fanatics

November 4, 2011

Happy Friday all.  If you live in the south, you likely know about the big AL v LSU football game this weekend.  #1 v #2. Some are even touting it as the “Game of the Century.”  Now, I am not one to talk about football.  I was a cheerleader all through high school, even captain my senior year, and it wasn’t until I met Robert that I even understood the rules of the game.  Yep, it’s true. I would cheer “1st and 10! Whaddya want? 1st and 10!” and really had no idea what that meant.  But I sure loved doing toe touches! It wasn’t entirely my fault.  My back was to the game the entire time so how was I ever supposed to see what was happening?  Right? Right.

However, football is a way of life in Alabama.  As a result, I’ve adopted the “when in Rome” philosophy and have chosen my team (as if I had a choice). Roll Tide!  Robert has patiently answered all my questions about yards and penalties and the quarterback sneak.  Beyond that, he’s taught me about the players past and present.  Being able to speak somewhat (a smidge) knowledgeably about the likes of Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, and Trent Richardson will take you surprisingly far in certain circles.  Plus, it’s amazing what you’ll pick up when you actually watch the game!

Maxwell is obviously learning young.  He’s ready to go with his red AL football…

So, it’s a big weekend in Alabama. For a little perspective on this game, check out this article on an LSU blog – Bama, A Team Worth Hating.  Robert sent it to me and I thought it was pretty interesting.  I told Robert that and he said, “You thought it was interesting because you’re with a winner. Football royalty.”  Royalty?  I like the sound of that! Want a little more? My sister-in-law linked to this one that humbly explains why AL is tops.

On Saturday night we will be decked out in our crimson shirts (well, Maxwell and Robert will.  I’m not quite that dedicated. But perhaps I should consider a crown if we’re royalty after all?!) and will be cheering for the Tide to roll all over the Tigers!  Go Bama!

In other news, it’s pretty funny to see what happens when you hand Maxwell the iphone with the camera switched to self-portrait mode….

Hilarious.  Have a great weekend everyone!

And, of course, Roll Tide!!

Would love to hear from you! 3 Comments
