Thanksgiving recap

November 28, 2011

Welcome back everyone!  Hope you all had a lovely holiday.  We had a great Thanksgiving…even if it was a small crowd.  Robert’s parents, Granddad and Lou Lou, came over for the day and I cooked us a Thanksgiving feast.  It was my first time to make all of my mom’s traditional Thanksgiving foods and I think everything turned out delicioso!…but I guess you’ll have to ask Robert, Lou Lou and Granddad if that’s really true!  🙂

Just as I thought it would, Maxwell and Susan’s little turkey made a great centerpiece!

While I was pretty proud of all the food I made, I think I was most proud of the homemade rolls (my mom’s rolls are a bit legendary in our house)…

and the pecan pie with handmade pie crust…

Yum!  I’m stuffed again just looking at it!

Maxwell was a peach all day and even took 2 naps for us.  While he was just as happy as could be, he clearly wasn’t into having his photo taken…

Solemn face #1…

Solemn face #2…

Solemn face #3…

And solemn face #4 with cousin Liz who stopped by….

I think he just didn’t want to have to stop playing to “say cheese!”  We got plenty of smiles after lunch though when he took his lawnmower outside to do a little work…

Fun times up and down and up and down the driveway!

It was a very happy Thanksgiving!

Would love to hear from you! 4 Comments

Weekend Recap

November 14, 2011

Happy Monday everyone!  It was a beautiful fall weekend here and we enjoyed every second of it!  After feeling like this most of last week…

(so pitiful) Maxwell was finally back to his happy self by Saturday morning.  hooray!  Maybe it has something to do with the awesome bed head he woke up with that morning?

Ha!  I think it probably had more to do with the fun birthday party we got to go to that day!  Maxwell’s friend, Smith, turned 1 and there was lots of celebrating to do, including some bounce housing!  Yep, Maxwell got to jump in a bounce house for the 2nd time in only a few weeks.  Lucky boy!

And lucky for Momma that this time Dad was the one that got in with him!  🙂  Maxwell LOVED it…

especially when Dad double bounced him!

There were smiles and giggles all around.

Maxwell had so much fun at the party, mostly because it meant he got to play with someone else’s toys!

This was the cute cake – a lion cupcake cake.  Adorable!

That afternoon I ventured out to Jo-Ann Fabrics and Hancock…and I will NEVER return.  I mean wow.  It was like torture having to spend any time in either of them.  The fabrics were terrible too.  Where do you find cute fabrics these days??  Anyone have ideas?  I just want some cute fabrics for making applique t-shirts.  Just some nice ginghams and stripes…is that too much to ask?  Apparently so.  If you’ve got any ideas of decent fabric sources, would love to hear them in the comments.

Later that day we made a spontaneous trip to the outlet mall and scored pretty big at the Polo store.  Baby Polo shirts 30% off!  awesome!  We also did pretty well at the Nike outlet with some new workout clothes.  You always work out harder when you look the part, right?

On our drive home the sky was literally glowing pink….

My phone picture obviously doesn’t do it justice.  It was gorgeous.

Sunday we went to church and then over to Whole Foods to order our Thanksgiving turkey!  gobble gobble!  I’m cooking for a small group of family this year and am excited to test out all of my mom’s recipes!  yum!

It was a great weekend.  Here’s to a great week ahead!

Would love to hear from you! 5 Comments

Gave it the ole college try

November 7, 2011

Happy Monday everyone!

So, the game Saturday night didn’t turn out the way we hoped but it was definitely a good game to watch!  My boys were all dressed and ready for a win…

but we just couldn’t pull it out. There’s always next year!  Roll Tide!

Unfortunately, the game wasn’t the only thing that didn’t go our way this weekend.  Maxwell decided to let me and Robert pull an all-nighter on Friday.  He woke up about 10:30 on Friday just miserable and sounding like he had a mild case of the croup.  After a visit outside to the cool air and cranking the humidifier to full blast, I rocked him in the chair until 3:30 am.  That boy would be DEAD asleep but as soon as I would even attempt to put him in his crib he’d start wailing.  He’d reach his little arms up for me and then hold on so tight when I picked him back up.  Poor sick buddy just wanted to be loved on.  After 5 hours in the chair I was at my limit, so I took him into our room and tried to get him to sleep in the bed with me and Robert.  That didn’t work…at all.  So, Robert stepped up and rocked him from 4:30 to 6:30.  We were both zombies Saturday morning but Maxwell seemed to be feeling better with no more signs of croup so that was good.  He took great naps on Saturday and slept great Saturday night after a little crying episode from about 10:30 to 11:30.  Sunday he was off and on – happy to super crabby.  I don’t know if it’s the congestion/cough/runny nose that’s making him pitiful or maybe he’s getting some teeth that are really bothering him.  Whatever it is, I’m ready for my happy, healthy buddy to be back.

Things on Sunday weren’t all miserable though.  Maxwell helped Dad trim the bushes out front…

and loved exploring the yard.  The grass was a little hard for him to walk on though so he needed my finger to hold onto…

cuteness.  Here you can also see where he managed to bang up his head Friday night with a little fall…

Poor buddy has had it rough!  Here’s hoping for a better week ahead!

Around the house

October 24, 2011

What a week we had!  Robert, Maxwell and I were in Naples last week visiting my parents and had a great, albeit rainy, visit.  We ended up heading back to Birmingham a few days early because we were afraid Maxwell was getting an ear infection again but, after a visit to the doctor, he got a clean bill of health.  That was great because Robert and I had plans to go to Nashville for the weekend for my Vanderbilt 10 year reunion.  GJ came to B’ham to stay with Maxwell and we had the BEST time on our trip.  I loved seeing all my friends and visiting our old haunts.  The best part of the trip though?  Pulling back in at home and seeing Maxwell smiling and waiting!  Plus all new pansies planted in our yard by the one and only fantastic GJ!!  Awesome!  Lots of details about both trips to come this week but I need a night to recuperate.  In the meantime, I’ve got some more pictures from two weekends ago in the yard…

There’s always work to be done around the house.  Luckily Robert is pretty handy with tools…

and this provides great entertainment for Maxwell.

There’s also always photo opportunities around the house.  Luckily I’m pretty handy with the camera…

and this also provides great entertainment for Maxwell (or maybe that’s just the leaves).

There’s also always bugs around the house.  Luckily they aren’t all scary, hairy spiders like this one…

eeeewwww.

I’m outta here.

But not before wishing my cousin Amy a VERY happy birthday!!  Hope it’s a GREAT one!

Would love to hear from you! 6 Comments

Curly Q

October 21, 2011

Happy Friday!!

Maxwell has the sweetest little curly hair.  I’m sure he’ll hate it someday but, man, I sure do love it!

It’s no surprise that he has curly hair.  Mine has a lot of wave to it and was pretty curly as a baby…

Robert’s is obviously very curly now and, as a baby…well, let’s just say he had a pretty awesome puffy do!

So, as you see, Maxwell really had no choice in the matter…

and I’m sure glad he’s got the curls!

And, yes, I’m going to keep letting his ringlets grow…probably long after he should really get his first haircut. But I won’t let them get to his shoulders…I think.  🙂

Have a great weekend!

Would love to hear from you! 3 Comments
