When joining the club, the kids got the chance to join swim team! None of them have done any kind of swim team before but were all up for the experience! Practice is 5 mornings a week so it’s pretty intense. In non-corona times they actually do it twice a day! We went to our first practice last Friday and they all jumped right in and did great. I was especially proud of Maxwell. He’s in the white group because of his age but you’re really supposed to have a good grasp of all the strokes before joining that level. Well, he had one swim instructor down in Naples that taught him the strokes last summer and that’s it! But, he did great and the coach said he was totally fine to stay at that level. Woohoo! Maxwell’s also excited because some of his best friends do swim team too so he loves getting to see them so much.
After the first practice I asked him how it was and he said, “Good but really hard!” His age group swims 50s for their races (two lengths of the pool) so it’s a lot of endurance work. He said the warm up was 6 laps!!
Spencer and Samantha have plenty to learn but are right on track with the others their age. Look at that cute little head swimming the length of the pool!
We learned that swim team practice on Friday is the best because you get popsicles!
They’re all going to be freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke experts before the summer is over!
We also got our official swim team jerseys so we can start earning stars and patches at meets!
Love it!
What fun! So glad they are on swim team!
A fun activity for years to come!
This summer they’ve spent more time in the water than on land!
