Gym and Gymnastics

August 24, 2017

I competed in a competition at my gym a few weeks ago and just want to share here because someday I’ll want to remember I could do this stuff! Our team came in 5th place and we were pretty proud! This was my second recent competition and in the one 2 months ago I clean and jerked 150 pounds which I was super proud of!

The competitions are so hard and I always wonder why in the world I’m doing them when I’m in the middle of it – but then I’m always glad I did it when it’s over.

Samantha has been spending some time in the gym lately too – at gymnastics!! She’s been to two classes now and LOVES it! She went to her first class last week and she was so cute in her leotard and “gymnastics hair” that I just about died! It took some convincing to let me put her hair in a ponytail but she finally agreed.

Susan took her and sent me this hilarious pic of Samantha with her teacher before they started…

gymnastics

ha! She was a little unsure but Ms. Robin ended up being great. Susan sent me so many cute videos. She got to flip around, swing from the rings, jump on the trampoline, and run around!

She went for her second time on Wednesday and was even MORE excited since she knew what to expect!

She also let me put her hair in “two ponytails” which basically made my year.

A little pig-tailed girl in a leotard doing gymnastics is basically what I’ve dreamed of my entire life! 💗

She had just as much fun the second time and got to jump in the foam pit, go down the mat slide, get in some floor work, work the obstacle course, and more flipping around!

Here’s to strong girls – young and old! 💪🏻

Under the Sea

August 23, 2017

Samantha’s favorite things right now are definitely her mermaids. She got her first one when our friends Patrick and Liz came to visit a few months ago…and she’s collected several more since! She has one that is The Little Mermaid but she really loves the Barbie mermaids best.

She loves to make them swim and play with their hair. They even get to leave the house with us on occasion!

Mostly she loves to sleep with them! Yes, all of them in the bed with her at once. Elsa and Anna often join the slumber party too. Elsa sings “Let It Go” with the push of a button and it’s pretty funny when we tuck her in at night and then hear that song coming out of her room 30 minutes later! ha!

She’s just the cutest with all of her mermaids and her mermaid pjs too!

Love my sweet girl and her dolls!

ps – Realizing I haven’t mentioned that this awesome girl is totally potty trained now! We did it over the course of a weekend about a month ago and she aced it so fast! Virtually zero accidents for this super star!! Go Baby go!

Eclipse

August 22, 2017

We had our glasses, we sat outside, we experienced the eclipse! It was pretty cool…short, but cool! At Maxwell’s school they were going to keep the K – 4th graders inside to watch a live stream on tv. I gave him the option of checking out to see it outside with us but he chose to stay at school with his friends.

The max coverage in Birmingham was at 1:31pm. Even though we had glasses for Samantha…

we decided to go on and put her down for a nap and not try to keep her up. I didn’t want the pressure of trying to keep her glasses on! Spence was ready to go though! We actually tied his glasses onto his head so they wouldn’t come off! ha! Susan was good and brought out the Children’s Bible to read the story of how God created day and night. Very fitting!

Let there be light, indeed!

Love those crescent shadows behind Spencer’s head.

Now we can all say we’ve seen an eclipse! Check check!

Weekend

August 21, 2017

The weekend started on Thursday night when I decided we all needed to go out to dinner and for ice cream. Why not, right?!

ice cream

Saturday brought a special early birthday treat for Maxwell. Lulu and Granddaddy came over for a birthday lunch and a trip to Dick’s! Just what my sports loving almost 7 year old wanted!

We stayed in Saturday night but did have quite the dance, dance, dance party at home!  💃🏼

Sunday was the kick off to the fall Sunday School season up at church so it was a fun morning to go because they had a bounce house and ice cream! Robert and I are going to be sunday school teachers for Samantha’s class this year. Well, us and 3 other sets of parents! We’ll take a good rotational job!

I also did some major closet clean-outs! 🙌🏻 A great weekend all around! Now who’s ready for the eclipse?!

Good hair day

August 18, 2017

As you know, Maxwell has an impressive head of hair. His hair cut lady has even dubbed him “Hollywood Hair”! At the beginning of the summer, Maxwell told me he wanted to grow his hair out long. I figured, “why not?!” so he didn’t get a haircut ALL summer. And because I was too lazy to take one without the other, Spencer never got a haircut all summer either!  🙂 Things were looking pretty shaggy around here by August!

I actually liked Maxwell’s hair a little longer. He can sport the shaggy do!

maxwell

Spencer? Not so much. I’m not sure he could actually see half of the time! ha!

I finally took them to get a haircut last week before Maxwell started school. Spencer told Misty he wanted his short like before (thank goodness!) and she cleaned him up nicely! He went from this…

Sharp!

Maxwell told Misty that he only wanted a “hair trim” and not a “hair cut!” Well, she only trimmed it, that’s for sure. He went from this…

After we walked out I was definitely thinking I should have asked her to take off a little more but, Maxwell was happy. I can always take him back in a week for another “hair trim!”
