Fresh cut

I took the kids to get haircuts last week and my shaggy boys got some short, fresh cuts! They both said they wanted it short…well, they actually both wanted a buzz cut but I said “no way, jose!” I was kind of surprised because, last summer, all Maxwell wanted to do was grow his hair out. He was already well on his way to really shaggy this summer…

But, then, wow! Look at this handsome kid!

I’m so glad he opted for short. It shows off his pretty brown eyes!

He really does have the best hair – whether long or short!

VBS

Last week both Maxwell and Spencer went to VBS. Spencer’s was just at the church – regular VBS with plenty of crafts and singing.

They did a little performance on the last day and Spencer nailed it…

Maxwell is old enough now to go to Bible Times Marketplace where the kids spend the entire day out at the Fresh Air Farm. It’s fantastic and Maxwell LOVED it. Seriously, he didn’t even want to go at first and now I think it might end up being his favorite week of the summer. They spend all day outside, get to swim, and do all kinds of cool stuff. The favorite thing of all the kids was finger knitting/looping/weaving these little loops into loooooooong ropes or whatever you wanted to make. He would get off the bus with one 10 feet long just looped around his neck! ha!

They also had a program the last day. Spence went with me to watch…

I’m not going to say Maxwell nailed his performance – he just really hates being on stage! – but he sang all of the words and did just enough of what he was supposed to do. He did have a GREAT week and his tribe leader had some very nice things to say about him.

Maybe he just missed being outside. Maybe he was tired of Samantha checking on him every 5 minutes to see if he’d turned into a butterfly yet. Maybe he didn’t like the types of leaves Spencer kept sticking in his house. Whatever it was, we hope he’s in a happier place. RIP Calvin. You were the best pet these kids have ever had.

On another note, I just ordered a butterfly kit to do with the kids later this summer! Can’t wait!
