Maxwell Van Gogh

January 21, 2015

While Spencer’s way into the iPad these days, Maxwell is way into drawing. He’ll spend 2 hours in the afternoon at the table with plain paper and his markers just making picture after picture. I love it.

I love how creative he is. I never tell him what to draw or how to draw it and I love seeing what he comes up with. Considering he’s not quite 4.5, I think they’re pretty darn good! Some of his recent masterpieces…

A tiger – of course. We’re still pretty obsessed with big cats around here and he draws a lot of tigers, lions, jaguars, etc…

Our house – notice the garage! – with all of us inside…

A construction site complete with orange cones at the bottom and “asphalt”. I love how the hard hats sit up above the worker’s heads!…

A picture of himself and Robert…this obviously made Robert ridiculously happy!

A belated Christmas scene – note the chimney with Santa at the top. I love how he ran out of room to write his name so just wrote the “well” on top of the “max!”…

An “army man” complete with a hunting gun shooting a deer! eek! Notice the red spot on the deer’s leg where he shot him! Not really sure where this idea came from since Robert isn’t a hunter but…it’s still good regardless! I do like the green and gray camo clothes…

Him riding his blue and orange bike, complete with orange helmet…

Dinosaurs around an exploding volcano! That’s a “long-neck-a-saurus”, a T-Rex, and a “tromp-a-saurus!”…

He had told me he wanted pictures of “big cats” for his room so I looked and looked all over Etsy to find some that would work.  I did order some but then decided that his “big cats” are better than any picture I could buy so I just hung two of his.  I think he was pretty proud to see his own artwork on the wall!

Love my little artist!

I’ve always said if you wait too long getting them started doing art, they are too self conscious to even try. Yay for Maxwell’s budding artistry! You go, “Van Gogh!”
