As Maxwell starts to eat more and more “real” food, mealtime becomes more and more of a challenge. Trying to think of new foods that he will eat is hard. Presenting him with new foods that he just throws on the floor is frustrating. Worrying about whether or not he’s getting enough to eat is not fun. I really want him to be exposed to all kinds of food and flavors. I know he’s a kid so chicken nuggets and french fries are inevitable…but maybe I can at least make it organic chicken and sweet potato fries?!
He still eats some baby food but I always mix it with chunkier fruit or cereal/oatmeal. I don’t feel bad about it because at least I know he’s getting fruits and vegetables in him that way! I also always give him some sort of finger food at every meal and try to get him to eat that first before offering the baby food.
Here’s a list of the foods he will eat with no problem…
Cheerios, baby food (Earth’s Best jars and pouches, especially the smoothie packets and Happy Baby pouches), oatmeal and any other kind of baby cereal, bananas, watermelon, strawberries, puffs, yogurt melts, YoBaby yogurt, some of the Gerber stuff (fruit strips, cereal bars, cookies), any kind of cracker, hummus (he looooves hummus on crackers), and avocado (mushed up and usually mixed with a jar of veggies). I probably feed him half of an avocado every day. He loves it and I love that he’s getting all the good fat.
Here’s a list of foods he will eat most of the time, and throw on the floor some of the time…
Grilled cheese, quesadillas, waffles, french toast sticks, cheese sticks and cubes.
Now that he has more teeth, I’m trying to introduce even more finger foods. A friend recently turned me on to the Dr. Praeger’s brand of frozen kid foods. I’ve liked them so much that they are today’s Friday Favorite! All organic, all healthy and all tasty (for adults too)! So far we’ve tried the fishies and the spinach littles. Maxwell liked the fishies but he loved the spinach littles. Loved them.
He’s going to be strong to the finish! toot toot! I had to go to Whole Foods to find them but I think some major grocery stores carry them as well.
Adventures in eating!
Have a great weekend!

Breakfast time and dinner time isn’t much better here either. Delaney eats a bit more than she did at the age of one but now she’d rather play than eat.

Nice Popeye reference.

I don’t think that Maxwell is in danger of not getting enough to eat! He looks like the Gerber Baby now. He is doing just fine!

Maxwell will be a great eater because he has a momma and daddy who love to cook!
