6th grade baseball

April 27, 2023

After so many nights and weekends spent watching Maxwell play, his rec baseball career has come to an end. What fun it has been to watch him play and improve so much since his first t-ball season in 2016! He’s a great baseball player and I really hope he sticks with it and plays at the Junior High next year.

This year was fun because Robert was able to put together a team of all 6th graders which included several of Maxwell’s buddies. This was a team of really good kids and they had fun playing together. Maxwell was a leader on the team and proved himself game after game to be a valuable member of the team. Along with Pryor, he was our best pitcher and I’d say he was definitely our best catcher.

I just really love to watch him play. His awareness on the field is superb and he knows where the play is at all times. GJ loves to watch him play too!

It wasn’t easy for Robert to make it work to coach – it’s a huge time commitment – but I think he’d agree when I say it was the very best time commitment he could have made this spring. I hope Maxwell always remembers these last two years of baseball with Dad as coach. I’m so proud of both of them.

The team ended up about in the middle of the pack with some great wins…including in the first round of the tournament when Luke hit a single homerun over the fence to win the game! Pretty exciting!!

Basketball fun

March 1, 2023

To celebrate the end of the season, Spencer’s rec team all went to a Birmingham Squadron game! These pics make it pretty clear how much fun they had!

They even snuck into some courtside seats until someone told them to move. ha! But then they made it on the jumbotron so a win all around!

They even got to meet some of the players after the game and get their autograph.

MB Magic

February 28, 2023

Spencer played OTM basketball again on the Mountain Brook Magic. Games started back in December at the Jingle Bell Jam and continued through last week with the OTM tournament. That combined with twice a week practice plus rec ball means Spencer has played a lot of basketball. He wouldn’t have it any other way!

This team really came together this season. We picked up a new point guard and everyone seemed to find their rhythm most games. We ended the season 6-2. We lost miserable to the MB “Black” team and then lost another game to a good Homewood team. These boys had high hopes of making it to the championship game to rematch the Black team but they lost in a heartbreaker against a Hoover team in the semifinals.

I’m so so proud of this team and how hard they worked. Spencer always played hard and that is all we can ask!
