MWW

July 16, 2024

Apparently Maxwell didn’t get enough paddling at camp because as soon as he got home he figured out a way to get back in the water! He, Jude and Spencer (who has never paddled before!) headed down to Montgomery Whitewater to do a 3 day kayak camp.

It’s a really cool facility. They focused on skill development but Maxwell and Jude got to do some more advanced runs with the instructor and had a great time all week! Spencer caught on quickly and had a fantastic time as well.

More Yard Goats

June 19, 2024

After the final OTM game the boys still had one more practice so we made it a fun parent/son baseball/kickball game. I got a hit both times up to bat, I kicked the kickball straight down the 3rd base line, and Spencer said his friends said “your mom is really fast!” Phew. I didn’t embarrass him! It was a really fun afternoon with some sweet boys.

We then played in one final tournament that weekend and had some good spectators!

The first day went awesome with two wins including a game where Spencer got to pitch! He got in and shut the game down just like I knew he could. I was so proud of him and he was so proud of himself!

Unfortunately the next day we had a tough loss in the semi-finals to end our season. But, no complaining – it was the very best season all around and one loss can’t damper that. The boys finished with 28 wins, 17 losses, and 1 tie!

That’s a pretty good record I’d say. Go Goats!!

More Yard Goats

Aside from all the out of town weekend tournaments, the Goats also played regular season games for OTM. They were in the AA 11U division. Lots of game throughout the season – lots of games against the Vestavia Voodoo! ha!

These boys ended the season as regular season champs and they also beat out Oak Mountain to win the tournament! Woohoo! It was a great game that included Noah hitting it over the fence for 3 runs!

A fantastic season all around for the Goats! I’m so proud of all these boys – they worked so hard and earned that ring!

Yard Goats

That’s a wrap on baseball for Spencer! What a fun season. As I mentioned earlier, he joined the AA team this year and it was a great move. He got to play a LOT of baseball and these guys put in the work and it really paid off. Spencer proved his spot on this team. He’s been first batter all season and almost always got on base. He did his job!! He also played catcher all season and made fantastic plays. He didn’t get to pitch nearly as much as he wanted but, when given the opportunity in the final tournament, he took full advantage of it and shut the game down striking out a batter and throwing a runner out at home. I’m so so proud of how much hard work he put into this season – it was long and hot and he rarely complained. His positive attitude is the thing I will always admire most about him. He takes it all in stride, doesn’t let the losses get him down for long, and is always ready to step into whatever position is needed. He’s the best.

I already shared the pics of the tournament in Mississippi where they took home first place! Lots of pics from the rest of the season to share too…starting with the Buffalo Wild Wings tourney in Fultondale where they came in runners up!

Next up was the long, hot tournament in Hanceville in Cullman County. Talk about some small town dirt fields!

No ring at this tourney – they lost in the semi-final game where Spencer was up to bat with 2 outs and struck out not swinging. But, he learned a lot and honestly, it had been such a long day that I don’t think anyone was sad about going home!

We then played in the Mother’s Day tournament in Calera – complete with pink socks for the boys and new hats for the moms!

We were becoming experts at managing the long hot days sitting in a ball field under tents drinking “goat juice” and eating chicken fingers from the concession stand!

We had some good spectators at that tourney too!

Goats came in Runners Up that day! The hardest fought game was the semi-final and we were really proud to walk away on top of that one! I’m not sure anyone minded the 2nd place bling for this tourney.

We then played in a tournament in Vestavia and this is the only picture I have from that one…ha!

On top of all of these, we had our regular season OTM games too…more baseball tomorrow!
