Blue Angels

April 16, 2024

We recently had the opportunity to go see the Blue Angels at Maxwell Air Force base with scouts and it was such a cool experience. Robert and Spencer headed down early with everyone to get the campsite all set up…

and then I drove Maxwell down after his baseball game to meet up with everyone at the air show. Samantha tagged along and we just made a day of it!

The airshow was huge and we had quite a walk to finally meet up with everyone – but we were very glad to find them because they had an awesome viewing spot in the VIP section with tents, free food, and fantastic views! They had all kinds of planes and parachuters – Miss Alabama even parachuted down!

Pretty sure the boys were more excited about all these cars parked on the base than the planes! ha!

For Daddo!

The Blue Angels finally came out and they were so cool to watch! Pretty unbelievable what they can do with the planes.

What’s really cool is that the dad of one of our new scouts is a former Blue Angel!

Jenny and Ronnie even came out to see them too. A fun day for everyone!

After the show, the scouts even got to go take a picture with the Blue Angels. How cool is this?

The boys then all headed back to the campsite and Samantha and I made the long walk back to the car to head home. We did pass some cool stuff along the way though…

More scouts

March 21, 2024

Other Scout stuff over the past few months…

We had Court of Honor in January and Maxwell was awarded several merit badges and rank advancement up to Star.

March campout – unfortunately Spencer had a baseball tournament in Tuscaloosa so wasn’t able to attend but Maxwell was able to get there a little late after his baseball game. Spring sports and scouts don’t mix!

Finally, I led the Snow Sports merit badge for these boys that are going skiing on spring break. Good times!

Scouts

March 20, 2024

I’ve been a busy Troop Committee Chair up at Troop 63 these past few months…but it’s all paying off! I worked really hard to recruit some great new scouts into the Troop for Spencer’s grade. I hosted a “mom’s night” at the house back in the fall…

and then we had a “Fire, Fun and Football” event at the scout hut in January…

and it was all worth it when we had 18 new scouts for the meeting in March! WOW!

Crossover Ceremony

March 14, 2024

Two weeks ago Spencer and his Cub Scout troop had their crossover ceremony officially earning their Arrow of Light and becoming Boy Scouts! There was a good group of them that stuck it out and made it through Cub Scouts together. This group wasn’t quite as committed and connected as Maxwell’s group so it wasn’t quite as bittersweet. But, it’s still a great accomplishment and I’m so proud of Spencer and all of these boys!

I’m really just proud of this kid in general – he’s a smart, good kid and I’m so thankful he’s mine.

Glad to have most of these boys moving onto Boy Scouts together at Troop 63!

Pinewood Derby

February 28, 2024

We raced in our final pinewood derby with Spencer’s car, “Magic”! It was Spencer’s car but Maxwell had a very heavy hand in the decoration. A team effort we’ll say!

The car had some good speed but, when in the outlaw division, it just couldn’t compete with the weight that Bobby’s car had…which had a literal dumbbell on it! ha! I personally think Spencer was robbed in the “paint job” category but that’s ok.

It was a pretty afternoon and a fun end to cub scouts!
