Street Party

April 19, 2016

This year I organized the Street Party at the kid’s preschool. It’s a fundraiser for their scholarship fund and just an all around fun day for the kids! A LOT went into the planning from requests for donations to reserving the park space to planning all of the games. But, it all went off without a hitch and we raised a record amount of money! woohoo! The party was last week on Monday and, thanks to me getting the stomach virus 2 days before, GJ was here to help set up that morning! Thanks to her we had all the balloons we needed! She was a master on the helium tank. The weather cooperated and it was a great day all around!

My co-chair Catherine and I ready for the party!

The party was Superhero themed in reference to the name of the H.E.R.O Scholarship Fund. We had these t-shirts made which I think turned out pretty cute!

We had Bean Bag Toss, Egg Race, Go Fish, and Grand Prize Game plus two bouncies and an obstacle course. It was just the right amount of things to do in the time allotted.

Happy Valentine’s Day

February 15, 2016

I hope you all had a LOVEly Valentine’s Day! We celebrated a little early with the kids’ parties at school last week. I was the party mom for both Maxwell and Spencer’s class so got to make our favorite Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Valentine M&Ms cookies! yum! I also put together little goodie bags for Maxwell’s class with heart straws, flashing rings, chocolate hearts and Valentine granola bars.

As always, we made the Valentines they took to their friends. We weren’t quite as crafty as in previous years (2013, 2014, 2015), but when I found these lion and tiger valentines on Etsy, I knew the boys would like them better than anything we could make! So, I bought the download, printed them on cardstock and then wrapped them up with some goodies that the boys chose.

Spencer’s had “o-o”s and suckers.

Maxwell’s had Kit Kats, suckers, and tattoos – snakes for the boys, rainbows for the girls!

The 2s teachers don’t really want the parents to come up for the parties – it’s too distracting – but the 4s teachers don’t mind. I loved getting to go up to Maxwell’s class and see him in his element.

Christmas Program

December 18, 2015

On Tuesday, Maxwell had his Christmas Program up at school and it was precious. They do a very shortened version of the Christmas story with lots of good singing! The boys were dressed in their holiday attire and looking Christmas cool!

Silly boys.

Susan very nicely went up early to save us good seats and then I brought Samantha up after she woke up from her nap. She was looking Christmas cute!  🙂

Maxwell did a great job during the program and took his job very seriously. He stood perfectly still and concentrated on all his songs! Here’s a link to the video if you really want to see.

Maxwell said his favorite song was “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”.

I’m so thankful for his sweet school and all that they do. Here’s Maxwell with Ms. Edwards…

School stuff

November 19, 2015

Over the past few weeks we had teacher conferences for both boys – and got two glowing reports!

Mrs. Betsy said that Spencer is a joy to have in the 2 year old class. She said he’s “all boy!” but comes in ready to learn and excited about the day. She actually said he usually comes in pretending to hide from the teachers and they play a little game of “where’s Spencer?” every time!  🙂 She said he listens well, follows directions, and is a leader – she said he’ll even tell others that there are no toys allowed in story time! She said the only issue they ever have is when he’s built something neat out of blocks or Legos and doesn’t want to leave it because he knows it will get knocked down! ha! Sounds like our house with all the Lego building going on. Jairus is his best bud and she said that he and Spencer have a great time together laughing it up over trucks and toys. She said he’s happy to play with all the kids in the class and gets along easily with everyone. She again commented that he really does have the BEST laugh and said that you can just tell he’s a really happy boy deep down. I just love hearing that!!  🙂 She said that she had zero concerns about him at all. Hooray!

We then had Maxwell’s conference with Mrs. Edwards. The things she said just made me proud to be his momma. She said he’s an excellent student and comes in every day excited to be at school. She said he listens amazingly well and always asks appropriate and thoughtful questions about whatever book they are reading or topic they are learning. He passed all the “tests” with flying colors – knows sight words, can identify all letters/numbers/colors/shapes/etc. His fine motor and scissor skills are on point! She encouraged us to just read, read, read to him because he’s ready to start reading on his own. She said focusing on rhyming words throughout the day will help that too. Interesting! She said that socially he’s great – he gets along well with the boys and the girls and is friends with everyone. She remarked on his artistic ability and his diligence in his work. She also commented on his good memory! ha! She could not have said more nice things about Maxwell and she thinks we will have a great elementary school experience next year!

legos

This week was also Maxwell’s turn to be “Student of the Week”. He got to take in a poster all about him and share it with the class. I printed off some pictures and we glued them all on together and then he picked a few “favorites” to add as well. He, of course, then drew some neat animals all over it. I’d say it turned out pretty awesome!

I’m so proud of my two sweet boys. They are both hard workers and just good kids. Robert and I sure are lucky!

School Days

November 10, 2015

It’s the most wonderful time of the school year! School picture time! ha! We actually showed major improvement this year on one kid! Let’s remember where we’ve been…

Go Maxwell go! That’s a really cute picture! Here was the other one…

school picture day

Clearly someone realized between that picture and the other one that his hair needed a little fixing. I’m going to thank Mrs. Edwards for that! 🙂

Spencer continues to really win at this school picture thing. He started off strong with 2013….

2012 school photo

Then we didn’t get one from 2014 because he wouldn’t sit for the photographer. Yep, his teacher said he just wouldn’t do it. Oh well.

Then this year we get this…

school picture

He looks like he’s having a great time, huh? He’s really letting his happy, joyful spirit show through! ha!

Maybe next year will be his year…or maybe not!  🙂
