Santa

December 14, 2021

After the Christmas parade and basketball game last weekend, we did a quick change and put on our Christmas finest to go see the big man himself! My crew was looking extra sharp…

More highlands

December 2, 2021

On Friday morning I woke ready for an adventure and, boy did we find one! It was really cold – not getting out of the 30s! – so we bundled up and headed to hike Chinquapin Mountain. It was a steep hike 2 miles up and then 2 miles down. There were several times we had to cross over the creek and then lots of zig zagging back and forth near the top. My crew were absolute troopers and handled it all like champs!

One of my favorite hikes we’ve done. Thumbs up all around and they for sure earned the burrito we went and got after!!

That night Robert and I met my childhood friend, Frank, and his wife for a drink and then had dinner at Wild Thyme with Mary Beth and Holland. The kids stayed home and played Clue!

Saturday we met up with Patrick and Henry to hike Satulah…

and had lunch, complete with milk shakes.

That night we watched a very exciting Iron Bowl game. Roll Tide! That one was a little too exciting and we were all exhausted by the time it was over. Glad it ended up the way it did though!! We got up and headed back early Sunday. It was a wonderful break and we are so thankful for so many things, including the fact that the state trooper that pulled Robert over on the way home let him off with just a warning! Thankful indeed!!

Highlands

December 1, 2021

We headed up to Highlands last week on Tuesday to celebrate Thanksgiving. We were all excited about a few days of rest and relaxation!

rest

Samantha was especially ready for some fun in her new hat that perfectly matched her jacket!

On Wednesday we got up and attempted a hike. Unfortunately, the road was closed and then the trail was really overgrown so we basically got a nice walk up the road. But, the sun was shining and the company was good so that worked out just fine!

We then headed into town to grab lunch at Market Fresh and then hit up the ice skating! The kids were so excited and I think it lived up to the hype. I was pretty impressed with their skating skills by the end! They were making loops around the rink without the blue plastic things!

Santa wasn’t out yet but we hopped in his sleigh for a quick pic!

That afternoon the boys got their Thanksgiving prep on…

On Thanksgiving morning, we did our traditional Whiteside hike and it did not disappoint! Lots of icicles to see!

It was cold but sunny and a perfect day on the mountain.

We then worked off our lunch with a walk to the waterfall and more icicles! Can’t beat it!

Boy Scout Campout

November 19, 2021

Last weekend Robert and Maxwell loaded up their backpacks and headed out on a legit Boy Scout campout! This was no “car camping”, this was hike 3 miles in, pitch your tent, cook your dinner, sleep in the cold, and hike back the next morning! Whatever they needed, they had to carry!

campout

Robert said they really had a great time. While it was chilly, it was pretty weather and they got to hike around Mt. Cheaha and enjoy the sites.

I think their camping food left a little to be desired but they survived and slept all warm and toasty in their sleeping bags with their hand and feet warmers!

I think they were hoping to earn another polar bear badge since it got down to 32, but apparently Boy Scouts is different than Cub Scouts and it has to get down to 19 degrees (!!) to earn that badge. No thank you!

Meanwhile, back at home, the Bobbseys and I had a lovely dinner in the warm club. My kind of night! Β πŸ™‚

I’m proud of my campers and excited for them to go on more Boy Scout adventures!

Super Bowl! Game 1

November 10, 2021

Super Bowl Sunday sure was super!! It was a beautiful day for some football and what fun for both boys to get to play in the championship game for their grade. Spencer’s game was at 1:00 and we had a minor balloon fiasco that morning involving a popped T and some bum helium tanks, but we worked it out and had the field looking ready for the Saints! Let’s Geaux!

I also had these fatheads made for both boys’ teams…they crack me up!

and then it’s time for the run through… (I love the pic of Spence!)

football

and then it’s time to play some football! We were ready!

Spencer played great. He had some good runs and good tackles. Unfortunately they came up short and lost to the Falcons 6 to 12. It was disappointing but, man, what a season this team had! I am so proud of all of them, especially my #7!!

Spencer went to the team after party (we stayed at the field for Maxwell’s game) and his awesome coaches gave him the Archie Manning “Mr. Saint” award! I don’t know what it’s supposed to mean but I’m going to say he got it because he embodied the heart of the team with his positive attitude, support of his teammates, and his ability to play any position they threw him into!

Coming in 2nd place in your first year of tackle football is something to be proud of! I sure do love to watch him play!

Geaux Saints! Geaux Spencer!!
