iPad

I got an iPad to help entertain Maxwell on our July 4th trip to Florida.  He really only started playing with it himself over the last 2 weeks and it’s amazing to me how quickly he’s learned to navigate that thing.  He can pull up his favorite apps, scroll with his finger, switch back to the home screen, etc.  Kids and technology!

I don’t have many apps on there yet but the favorites are by Duck Duck Moose, Toca Boca and Fisher Price.  Specifically, the faves are:

Duck Duck Moose – Trucks.  Maxwell can play with dump trucks, go through the car wash or direct the trash truck to pick up the trash.  He loves it!

Duck Duck Moose – Old MacDonald.  Maxwell calls this “moo” because of the cows on the main page.  It takes you through the Old MacDonald song with all sorts of new verses.  Did you know they had a bulldozer on that farm?!

Duck Duck Moose – Wheels on the Bus.  We’re clearly big fans of this song around here and this app is fun for Maxwell because it includes some new verses and it super easy to  navigate.

TocaBoca – Train.  Maxwell loves to drive the choo-hoo, pick up passengers and freight and blow the train whistle.  Really cool.

Fisher Price – Animal Sounds. Very basic and cute graphics but Maxwell loves it.  Animals pop up and he can touch them to make them make a sound. Very easy for him to play with.

And this picture just makes me laugh….especially since I was taking the picture with my iPhone!!

As I type this blog post on my Mac I think it’s safe to say we’re an Apple family!

Weekend recap

Hi all!  Hope you had a good weekend.  Our was mostly good…minus a few crying episodes and one big boo-boo!

The weekend started off right on Friday when I had this for lunch…

Yum.  Made with tomatoes and basil from our backyard, it was delicious.  Inspired by this post from a great blog. (one of my faves).

Saturday morning brought bagels…or tiggles as Maxwell kept saying!  Whatever he wanted to call them was fine by me because he was one happy camper!

We actually had Robert’s sister and brother-in-law staying with us for the weekend because they had a wedding to go to in Birmingham.  Robert’s parents were also planning to come over Saturday afternoon before the wedding to see Maxwell for a bit.  We were hoping that Maxwell would get a great nap in and be well rested to see Lou Lou and Granddad.  Yea, he had other plans and decided not to sleep and to throw a fit for about 2 hours instead.  Holland was at the house for all of that and I definitely think we convinced him that he doesn’t need kids anytime soon!  We finally got Maxwell up after a whopping 30 minute nap and hoped for the best!

Luckily he did great all afternoon and got some quality time in with Lou Lou and Granddad.

We were ready to put him to bed early that night and went through the normal nighttime routine which involves Maxwell turning off his lamp.  I have no idea why, but right after he turned it off, his little hand went straight for the lightbulb.  Robert and I pulled it off within half a second but the damage was done.  That bulb was hot and his poor little hand was burned.  We spent the next hour and half getting him calmed down and keeping ice on his hand.  A long afternoon followed by a long night!

When he woke up the next morning, his hand was definitely worse than I thought it was going to be.  Look at these terrible blisters!

He’s been such a trooper about it and hasn’t mentioned his boo-boo too many times.  Hopefully it will heal up fast!  and, yes, I’m getting a new lamp for his room asap.

Sunday Maxwell got to (literally) hang out some more with Mary Beth and Holland…

and play with some Play-doh.

We then even got to see GJ and Daddo as they stopped by for a quick visit on their way to AR!!

We love visitors!!

It was a fun family-filled weekend with just a few rough patches.  Hope you all had a good weekend!

Morning Routine

I like to document how life is around here these days because I know it’s all going to change so fast. Our little morning routine right now is one of those that I know will be gone before I know it.

When Maxwell gets up we always give him some juice and a cup of dry cereal – right now it’s Quaker Oatmeal Squares – that he snacks on until we (or Susan) give him his real breakfast about half an hour later. Robert is always up, ready for work, eating a bowl of cereal and, most mornings, Maxwell wants to get up in the chair next to him and hang out….and get some spoonfuls of DaDa’s cereal!

What a way to start the day!

Church ready

We actually got ready for church a few minutes early on Sunday so I snapped some pics of Maxwell outside…

As you can tell, he was really excited about going!  🙂

Unfortunately, it didn’t get better when we got there.  We go to church at the same place Maxwell goes to school and I think he always assumes he’s going to see his normal teachers and friends there.  Not true, unfortunately.  This week his normal room wasn’t even being used because of an air conditioning issue so he was in a new room with all of the Sunday helpers…and he was not happy about it!  The nursery coordinator told us he cried almost the entire hour we were gone!!  Oh no!!  Poor buddy!!  Things will all be changing soon as he’s going to get a new school classroom and a new Sunday classroom.  Let’s hope we all survive the changes!
