Summer fun

August 25, 2017

Well, the home stretch of summer has come and gone. Spencer and Samantha finally start school next week. I think it’s safe to say these kids have LIVED IT UP this summer all thanks to the wonderful Mrs. Susan! They have gone and done just about everything you can possibly go and do in Birmingham! They’ve been to the zoo to ride the pirate train and feed a giraffe, they’ve  played on all parks around, and visited every jump place where they slid and bounced their little hearts out – and got carried away! They’ve been to McWane and the Flight Museum and even dressed up like cows for free Chik-fil-A! They’ve been to the library for Roger Day and Bubblemania. They’ve been to the Alabama Theater and the movies for all kinds of entertainment. They swam and played until they wore themselves out!

These kids sure do have it lucky to have the one and only Mrs. Susan as their summer tour guide!!! It’s hard to say goodbye to such a FANTASTIC summer…but I know this school year will be just as good! Thanks for all the awesome fun Mrs. Susan! We LOVE YOU!

Weekend

August 21, 2017

The weekend started on Thursday night when I decided we all needed to go out to dinner and for ice cream. Why not, right?!

ice cream

Saturday brought a special early birthday treat for Maxwell. Lulu and Granddaddy came over for a birthday lunch and a trip to Dick’s! Just what my sports loving almost 7 year old wanted!

We stayed in Saturday night but did have quite the dance, dance, dance party at home!  💃🏼

Sunday was the kick off to the fall Sunday School season up at church so it was a fun morning to go because they had a bounce house and ice cream! Robert and I are going to be sunday school teachers for Samantha’s class this year. Well, us and 3 other sets of parents! We’ll take a good rotational job!

I also did some major closet clean-outs! 🙌🏻 A great weekend all around! Now who’s ready for the eclipse?!

Good hair day

August 18, 2017

As you know, Maxwell has an impressive head of hair. His hair cut lady has even dubbed him “Hollywood Hair”! At the beginning of the summer, Maxwell told me he wanted to grow his hair out long. I figured, “why not?!” so he didn’t get a haircut ALL summer. And because I was too lazy to take one without the other, Spencer never got a haircut all summer either!  🙂 Things were looking pretty shaggy around here by August!

I actually liked Maxwell’s hair a little longer. He can sport the shaggy do!

Spencer? Not so much. I’m not sure he could actually see half of the time! ha!

I finally took them to get a haircut last week before Maxwell started school. Spencer told Misty he wanted his short like before (thank goodness!) and she cleaned him up nicely! He went from this…

Sharp!

Maxwell told Misty that he only wanted a “hair trim” and not a “hair cut!” Well, she only trimmed it, that’s for sure. He went from this…

After we walked out I was definitely thinking I should have asked her to take off a little more but, Maxwell was happy. I can always take him back in a week for another “hair trim!”

First day of first!

August 16, 2017

Yesterday was Maxwell’s FIRST day of FIRST grade! I think it’s going to be a great year. We went up on Monday to meet his new teacher, Mrs. Liddle.

She seems really sweet and Maxwell is excited he got her. He even took his 100 Books list to show her! She was pretty impressed. 🙂

Unfortunately, her husband had a heart attack last weekend (!) so she’s going to miss the first week of school. He should be fine though and she’ll be back next week if all goes to plan. The class has a great sub this week and it will all be fine. After all, we’re used to starting and ending the school year with a different teacher!

On the first day, Maxwell was all neon and ready to go!

I’d say that’s a sign of a good day! I’m so proud of this kid and can’t wait for him to learn all kinds of fun things this year! Go Maxwell!

One last summer hurrah!

August 15, 2017

Today is a big day – Maxwell starts first grade!! It’s been a fantastic summer and while I’m anxious to get back into a routine, I’m going to miss these summer days. The kids have done so many fun things from exciting trips, to adventures with Mrs. Susan, to lazy days at home. Most importantly, they’ve all played so well together. I love seeing my 3 little buddies being the best of friends (most of the time!). I know it won’t always be like that and I’m so appreciative for this summer and how much they have enjoyed being together at this age.

As a little farewell to summer, we hosted a neighborhood party at our house on Sunday night. We have some fun families on our street that all have kids of similar ages. We had gotten together with most of them at Easter and I thought we needed to do it again. I ordered up a bounce house/water slide, got some chicken nuggets and plenty of watermelon, corn, and tomatoes, and we had a great party! I think all of the neighbors were excited to get together!

The only minor hitch in the evening was when Spence slipped and knocked his cheek on the brick step. Ouch!! He hit it pretty hard but, after a period of pitifulness, he rebounded and got back on that water slide! thank goodness.

face

His face actually wasn’t as bad the next morning as I thought it was going to be. I’m just so thankful he hit his cheek and not his eye, nose, or mouth!

Anyway, aside from the fall, it was a great party. The best part about having the party at your house? You get to keep going down and down and down the water slide even after everyone else has left!  🙂

We finally pulled them off of it at 7:30 and tucked 3 worn out babies into bed.

Long live summer!!
