A little of this…

October 15, 2013

First, a BIG happy birthday to Susu!!  We love you!

susu bday

Second, a few things going on around here…

Last Thursday was Open House night at Maxwell’s school.  I loved getting to see his teachers, his classroom and all of his artwork!  Maxwell couldn’t wait to show me the bucket firetruck and cow fireman that he plays with every single time he goes to school.  One of the teachers was laughing telling me about how possessive he is of that firetruck and cow fireman!  too funny!  I think Spencey had the most fun of all the kids there.  He loved being in the big kid classroom!

On Saturday, I got up at the crack of dawn and headed to Atlanta with 6 other girls from my Bunco group.  (out of town two weekends in a row! who do I think I am?!)  We went to Scott’s Antique Market and then had a fun night on the town that included the most entertaining Uber cab ride I’ve ever had that involved Blurred Lines, a booming bass and a giant video screen!

atlanta

The trip was tons of fun and I even came home with that pretty little bench!  Robert, once again, very nicely held down the fort at home.  I think the boys had plenty of fun watching football together!

bama

I headed on back early Sunday because we had visitors!  GJ and Daddo were passing through!  GJ even got to go to Maxwell’s soccer game on Sunday afternoon…

soccer

Maxwell did great and played the WHOLE game!  Go buddy go!

soccer

GJ also stuck around the next morning. We had just gotten in the car to head to Home Depot when the cement mixer truck pulled up right in front of the house to pour concrete into the section of sidewalk they were repairing.  We obviously put the car in park and hopped out to watch the show!

sidewalk

We no longer have a broken sidewalk but we do have a personalized one now!  🙂

sidewalk

I had grand intentions of doing full initials for both boys but the cement was harder to write in than I thought so we just stuck with an S and an M!  And we also did get on over to Home Depot and my yard is now full of planted pansies!  Hooray!

I think we’re caught up for now…see you tomorrow!

Would love to hear from you! 3 Comments

Soccer game 1

September 19, 2013

So…the soccer game story.  We had a couple of strikes against us that just kept it all from going the way I had hoped.  But, we all got an A for effort!

The day started great.  Maxwell was honestly really excited about playing soccer.  We tried for an early nap so he could at least get a little sleep before the 3:30 game but he was just too amped up to fall asleep.  Strike 1.

We got out to the field and got our red jersey.  Yay for red!  We then saw a few familiar faces like William and Lila and then these welcome cheerleaders showed up!

soccer game 1

Hooray for Lulu and Grandaddy!

Maxwell got out there with coach Robert, kicking around the ball and having fun.

soccer game 1

Some more players showed up and they tried to organize a few little drills…

We then started to notice there were LOTS of red jerseys showing up.  And lots of names that weren’t on our original roster were being sent to our field.  Turns out there was some huge mishap with the rosters and the list of teams that all the coaches had been given at the meeting earlier that week didn’t match the the list of teams that the people on the field had.  It was total chaos.  There were parents everywhere trying to figure out where to be and what team they were supposed to be on.  Strike 2.

soccer game 1

Maxwell’s friend from school, James, was given a red jersey even though he wasn’t originally on our team.

soccer game 1

They were standing by each other and I turned my back and next thing I hear is James’ dad asking Maxwell if he’s ok.  I turned around and Maxwell had clearly been popped in the face with a soccer ball…and popped hard!  He was trying to be brave but as soon as he caught my eye the tears started flowing.  I scooped him up and got him calmed down and we got some cool water for his face and eye.  Ouch.  From that point on, Maxwell didn’t like soccer…and he didn’t want to play if James was playing.  Strike 3 – he was out.

Those in charge finally told our team to go merge with another red team and just “make it work” for the day and they promised to have it all sorted out by next week.  So, Robert had to try and coach with another guy  – half his players, half our players, all confused.  There was no time for any sort of practice or anything to get the kids organized.  It was a mess.  But, Robert handled it all great and they played a fun little first half.  Halftime came and Coach Robert rallied his troops…

soccer game 1

and Maxwell decided that was when he wanted to play soccer!

soccer game 1

soccer game 1

ha!  He’s pretty good when there’s no opposing team on the field!

soccer game 1

By the second half, Maxwell was over-tired and just spent.  He started complaining about wanting to use his ball on the field in the game.  So, Robert grabbed his ball and we actually got Maxwell out on the field.  Well, then he realized that meant everyone else would be kicking his ball too and he didn’t like that one bit.  So, he was running up and down the field super sad trying to just get his ball back and go back to the sidelines.  This picture breaks my heart…

soccer game 1

I mean…broken. I can barely look at it.  I just want to scoop him up and hug him.

soccer game 1

We got him off the field and that was the end of soccer game 1 for him.

soccer game 1

Important lessons learned – we really need a nap before soccer, don’t let Maxwell’s ball be used as the game ball, and try real hard not to get hit in the face with a ball before the game starts!  Also, kids don’t like orange slices after soccer games anymore…

soccer game 1

they much prefer the Teddy Grahams that another  mom brought.  Live and learn.  Here’s to the next game!  We’re all hoping for less chaos and fewer tears!

ps –  a big thanks to Lulu and Granddaddy for coming up to watch Maxwell play.  I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t there to entertain this little one…

See you all tomorrow!

Check up!

September 12, 2013

One of Maxwell’s other favorite gifts from his birthday was his doctor kit.  After playing fireman outside for a long time the day of his party, he decided to cool off by coming inside and giving everyone a checkup!

He would listen to our heart (or belly!), check blood pressure, look in our ears/nose/eyes, give a shot and then fix us up with a bandaid!  Luckily everyone checked out as healthy!

I leave you with this little diddy from Doc McStuffins…one of Maxwell’s faves!

Time for your checkup! Time for your checkup!
I’m gonna check your ears, check your eyes, find out how much you’ve grown.
Time for your checkup!
I’m gonna listen to your heart beat, fix you up, ready to go.
Time for your checkup!
It’s ok if you giggle. This will only tickle a little.

Back to the birthday party recap…

After the tot lot, we headed back to the house for lunch with the family and presents!  yay!

Favorite gifts included his fireman boots, a talking Woody and Buzz, a leaf blower and some “doctor stuff” complete with white coat!

Robert and I then had one more big present for him!  What else did my fireman loving 3 year old need?  A firetruck of course!

firetruck

Oh yes we did!  This thing is huge!  It’s a two seater, battery powered firetruck.  Perfect for a Fireman Maxwell and his sidekick Spencer!

We had it sitting on the patio and turned on the siren.  Maxwell came outside with wide eyes and said “a big firetruck!!” and then RAN back inside to get FULLY outfitted in his fireman gear before coming over to actually check out the firetruck.  Sweet boy.

fireman

This thing has a working siren, a working radio and even a working hose on the back that you can put water in to squirt out (he doesn’t know you can do that yet!).

firetruck

He had a blast with it.  He’s still learning how to drive and steer at the same time but I’m sure he’ll be cruising up and down the driveway with no problem soon!

Fireman Maxwell on duty!  It was a GREAT day and the best way to ring in 3!!!!  Happy Birthday Maxwell!!
