Last Wednesday Maxwell started the day like this…

and ended it like this!

He got them off almost one year to the day that he got them on! He’s so happy to be rid of his braces just in time to eat all of that chewy Halloween candy! See ya later brace face!!

Boot camp

October 2, 2020

Well, you never know what’s going to happen around here. Spencer has to go to boot camp for a week!

boot

His foot has been bothering him for a few weeks. He finally started mentioning it to me about a week ago and I noticed him limping around…a lot. He was really in pain. He made it through his sports but we were having to load him up with Motrin and ice it down. Not good! We went to the orthopedist on Wednesday and it turns out Spencer has an extra bone in his foot! I always knew he was special!! Official diagnosis – He has an accessory navicular which is an extra bone or piece of cartilage located at the inner side of the foot just above the arch and is incorporated within the posterior tibial tendon. From my understanding, that little piece of bone can cause the tendon to get really tight during times of growth and times of lots of activities – especially activities in non-supportive shoes like cleats! Check check! Spencer is now getting a nice pair of orthotics to go into his cleats and is wearing this boot for a week to force him to rest his foot. Hopefully after being in the boot for a few days we can get him to a place where he can play in his first baseball game on Sunday. Go Yankees!

I think he felt pretty cool walking back into school that day with his Iron Man leg!  🙂  One other thing that just made me kind of laugh…and kind of cringe…was when the doctor asked what sports Spencer played. We said tennis, golf, flag football, basketball, and baseball. He said “great, which ones are you playing right now?” Ummm…all of them?! Just made me realize how much we have piled onto our plates and maybe we need to rethink some things. Of course, the doctor also said, “I’d rather see that than seeing a kid only focused on one sport at this age.” Valid point too.

After my adventure with Spencer I then got to take Samantha to the dermatologist to get a wart frozen off of her foot. Not surprisingly, Spencer was a better sport about his boot than Samantha was about the freezing blast on her foot!

Took these 3 to the dentist and got a good report on their teeth! It was also good practice wearing our masks…

Brace face

March 18, 2020

Maxwell got new colors! Turquoise and dark blue…

braces

He also got to get a tooth pulled! He lost one of the bottom ones so the ortho wanted to pull it’s mate on the other side to even things up. Maxwell handled it like a champ and was quite the fan of the laughing gas! ha! I’ll spare you the pic but the tooth they pulled was really long! That thing wasn’t coming out on its own anytime soon!

Working on that pretty smile!

Time for your checkup!

February 26, 2020

I took Samantha for her 5 year check up yesterday and she continued her streak of really not liking going to her yearly checkups! This time she knew she had her 5 year shots coming and that was causing a lot of stress for her. I kept encouraging her and loving on her and we got through it – but not without some crying and screaming during the shots. Overall, she did just fine and we got a great report from Dr. Walley!

She is 43 inches tall and weights 44.2 lbs. At her last checkup she was 41 inches tall and 40.6 lbs. They’ve redone the charts and this puts her at 58th% in height and 75th% in weight.

Spencer at 5 was 43 and 1/4 inches tall and 43.6 lbs.

Maxwell at 5 was 42 and 3/4 inches tall and 36 lbs.

Samantha had no smiles for anyone and very little to say to both the nurse and Dr. Walley!

They also gave her a paper dress which she wanted nothing to do with!

This was right before shots – look at that face! ha!

checkup

She survived the shots, got over it quickly, and was happy with her reward of an Icee and a new Polly Pocket!

I sure do love my strong-willed, healthy, growing girl!!
