Well, you never know what’s going to happen around here. Spencer has to go to boot camp for a week!
His foot has been bothering him for a few weeks. He finally started mentioning it to me about a week ago and I noticed him limping around…a lot. He was really in pain. He made it through his sports but we were having to load him up with Motrin and ice it down. Not good! We went to the orthopedist on Wednesday and it turns out Spencer has an extra bone in his foot! I always knew he was special!! Official diagnosis – He has an accessory navicular which is an extra bone or piece of cartilage located at the inner side of the foot just above the arch and is incorporated within the posterior tibial tendon. From my understanding, that little piece of bone can cause the tendon to get really tight during times of growth and times of lots of activities – especially activities in non-supportive shoes like cleats! Check check! Spencer is now getting a nice pair of orthotics to go into his cleats and is wearing this boot for a week to force him to rest his foot. Hopefully after being in the boot for a few days we can get him to a place where he can play in his first baseball game on Sunday. Go Yankees!
I think he felt pretty cool walking back into school that day with his Iron Man leg! 🙂 One other thing that just made me kind of laugh…and kind of cringe…was when the doctor asked what sports Spencer played. We said tennis, golf, flag football, basketball, and baseball. He said “great, which ones are you playing right now?” Ummm…all of them?! Just made me realize how much we have piled onto our plates and maybe we need to rethink some things. Of course, the doctor also said, “I’d rather see that than seeing a kid only focused on one sport at this age.” Valid point too.
After my adventure with Spencer I then got to take Samantha to the dermatologist to get a wart frozen off of her foot. Not surprisingly, Spencer was a better sport about his boot than Samantha was about the freezing blast on her foot!
Gotta get all these feet fixed up!! Have a great weekend.
