Updates!

September 6, 2011

Updates, updates, updates.

On Wednesday of last week Maxwell went to the doctor for his 1 year check-up.  Dr. Walley thinks he’s doing great! He even commented that his legs are long for his age and he might end up being quite tall.  We’ll see!  He’s now 30 inches tall (75th to 95th %), weighs 21 lbs, 11.5 oz (50th%) and has a head circumference of 19 1/4 inches (97thth %).  Whoa, big noggin!  No wonder some of those t-shirts are a little tough to get over his head!  Must be those big brains…

Maxwell really didn’t like the doctor’s office from the moment I had to hand him over to the nurse to be weighed. I think we might be having a bit of separation anxiety! He was pretty pitiful after having to get weighed and measured…

But then cheered up a bit…

Until Dr. Walley wanted to poke on him…

It only went downhill from there. The 1 year checkup is pretty tough with all the shots. Maxwell actually got so upset after the shots that he threw up…all over me. Lovely. And that was before he had to go get his finger pricked. Drama. Thank goodness Robert had gone to the appointment with me. I needed backup! But, it’s all over now and we’re happy to have a good report from the doctor!

On Saturday Robert woke up Maxwell with the AL fight song blaring from his computer. Game Day! We had some business to take care of before watching the game though…the business of buying a new car!  Fun!  We headed out to the Jeep dealership where Robert made a deal…

Maxwell waited patiently…

and FIVE HOURS LATER, we had a new car!

I’m so excited! It was quite an adventure at the dealership though. We got out there bright and early on Saturday only to find out they were having this huge “Eliminator” used car sale which included 3 cars on sale for only $79. There was music blaring from a Hummer parked out front, tons of people looking for a deal, and it was a zoo. Or maybe a circus. Either way, it was crazy and literally took us 5 hours to get everything done. Maxwell was so good the entire time.  Evidence…

and I think he’s super happy to have a new ride!

And, thankful to the DVR, Robert got home and got to watch the AL game in full. Roll Tide!

That’s all the updates for now! Tomorrow – updates from the first day of SCHOOL!

Would love to hear from you! 5 Comments

Doctor Update!

June 7, 2011

Maxwell had his 9 month check up yesterday and all looks good!  He’s 18 lbs, 10 oz (50th %) and 28 inches long (75th to 90th %).  His big ole noggin is 18.5cm around and he’s in the 95th % for head circumference!  Must be those big brains.  As Dr. Walley said, the 9 month checkup is when the babies really start checking him out…and Maxwell was definitely giving Dr. Walley the eye!  He wasn’t too pleased when he first tried to come close but then warmed up to him pretty quickly.  He was thinking this whole doctor thing wasn’t so bad until the end when the nurse with the needle came in.  Ouch!  At least it was only one shot this time.

I took some pics with my phone…because that’s what I do.

Maxwell was a little leary of Dr. Walley at first…or maybe he’s just mad because Dad is thumping him in the cheek with a tongue depressor!

Warming up to the doc…

Fun with Dad (he was forgiven for the tongue depressor incident)…

Looking very sad after that terrible shot…

Ending on a happy note…smiles with Momma!

Thank goodness for good reports from the doctor!

Would love to hear from you! 4 Comments

Doctor Update

March 8, 2011

Maxwell had his 6 month check up yesterday and all looks good.  Shockingly, my little chubbo is not so chubbo after all!  While it feels like he’s grown so much over the past 2 months, he’s only gained 1 lb since his last check up in early January!  what?!  Dr. Walley isn’t concerned at all though…he thinks he’s just gearing up for a growth spurt.  Maxwell now weighs 15lbs, 13 oz. which is in the 50th to 75th %.  Still above average!  I didn’t write down his exact height but he was 26 inches and something which is in the 75th to 90th %.  The doctor said his legs are long and look like the legs of a 9 month old!  We got some tips for introducing solid food and can’t wait for the eating adventures to begin!  It was a great report all around and we are so thankful to have a healthy, thriving, slightly chubbo little boy!

Maxwell was very happy letting Dr. Walley look at him.  But when he actually came close with his cold instruments…that was a different story!

He was happy again once he was back in my arms…

But then the nurse came in to give him his shots and….well…see for yourself…

Poor buddy.  Breaks my heart.  But, you’ll all be happy to know that he was back to his smiley self by that afternoon…

We love good doctor updates!

Doctor update!

January 14, 2011

After a reschedule due to the snow and ice, Maxwell and I made our way to the pediatrician yesterday.  It was a GREAT report all around.  Dr. Walley looked at his stats and said, “I think this is the definition of thriving!”  Hooray!  Maxwell is up to 15 lbs which is in the 50% to 75%.  Chubbo!  We love all his rolls!  The most surprising number is his height.  He grew 3 inches since his last appointment and, at 26 inches, is still in the 95% for height!  what?!  Now, he might slow down on this growth and average out but you never know. He could be a tall dude!  This definitely explains why all of his outfits look like knickers on him!  🙂  The doctor also thinks he’s starting teething which explains all the chewing…on everything.  We’re going to wait until 6 months to start rice cereal because that’s how Dr. Walley rolls.  Fine with me.  Things are working great as they are now so why mess with success?!

Here’s a few iphone pics from the appointment:

Happily playing while waiting for the doc…

Not very happy with the 4 needles that were stuck in his leg…

Am I a bad momma for taking that photo?  I was comforting him, I promise!  🙂

Poor, pitiful leg…

Not to worry though, he was calmed down a few minutes later and we were on our way home!

So glad to get a good report from the doctor!  Hope you all have a great weekend!

Sick and Pitiful

December 13, 2010

Happy Monday everyone.  Unfortunately, our weekend wasn’t as holly jolly as it was supposed to be.  Friday night poor little Maxwell did not feel well at all…and did not sleep at all.  Robert and I were up with our crying, miserable guy all night.  I finally got him to sleep with me in the glider chair from 3 to 5 am.  Luckily our doc has Saturday office hours so we were up there by 8:15 am to see the pediatrician.  I think Robert and I were honestly hoping it was an ear infection just to know there was an actual problem, but, no.  Maxwell just has his first cold with lots of congestion.  Unfortunately, the congestion makes his reflux hurt even more causing a very unhappy little boy.  He was pretty pitiful all day Saturday.  Robert and I were dreading Saturday night in fear of no sleep again but, luckily, we were able to get him snoozing pretty much all night by letting him sleep on us in the chair as we were able to hold him more upright to keep the reflux from hurting as bad.  I think he also just wanted to be loved on…don’t we all want that when we’re sick?  One of the saddest things is that he’s totally hoarse from all the drainage and crying.  There’s nothing more pitiful than a tired, cranky baby trying to cry with no voice!  Sunday has been much better so far…hopefully he’ll recover quickly.

Looking so tired and pitiful on Saturday…

Some of you might find this gross, but it’s the reality of babies…you’ve got to suck their snot out for them.  The bulb syringes work good but I also got this neat little invention that works great!  It’s a Nose Frida Snot Sucker. (www.nosefrida.com)  You put one end on the baby’s nostril, the other end in your mouth and you suck the snot out!!  Don’t worry, there’s a filter than keeps any of the gunk from reaching your mouth.  Gross?  totally.  Satisfying?  totally.

The good part about having to go to the doctor on Saturday?  Maxwell got weighed and he’s up to 13 lbs, 11 oz!  Our little CHUBBO!!  We love it!  He weighed 11 lbs, 15 oz at the beginning of November so that’s almost a 2 lb weight gain in a little over a month!   He’s got at least a few ounces in his cheeks for sure!  🙂

Maxwell also got to experience his first snow this weekend!  It wasn’t much but we had some flurries here on Sunday – pretty exciting.

Feeling better on Sunday…

p.s. Happy Birthday to my cousin, Laura, last week!  Hope it was a great one!

Would love to hear from you! 6 Comments
