Time for your checkup!

September 26, 2014

Maxwell had his 4 year checkup yesterday with Dr. Walley and all looks great!  He’s 40.25 inches tall (75th – 95th%) and 33.2 lbs (50th – 75th%).  Here’s his 3 year stats. For comparison, Spencer weighs 30 lbs right now!  ha!  But, as Dr. Walley said, Maxwell has really slimmed out and is a long and lean little boy now, not a chubby toddler.  I can vouch for that as there’s not one ounce of fat on Maxwell!  We had to wait for just a bit but I loved getting to chat with my buddy…

and then we loved getting a good report from the doc.

He got the Flu-mist but thankfully no shots this time.  Hooray! Always thankful for good doctor reports!

Speaking of doctor reports, we got a peek at BB3 at the doctor a week ago.  It was my 20 week ultrasound but I was already 21 weeks.  The baby looks great and measured right at 21 weeks and 3 days.  Perfect!  All it’s parts are in place and growing – including some parts that we didn’t peek at!  🙂  Still going to wait until the end of January to know blue or pink!

And I know it’s hard to see but s/he is holding up a little #1 finger here!

Do you think it’s a girl trying to tell me she’s going to be the first baby GIRL Brown? There’s a chance!  🙂

In final doctor news, Spencer has no doctor news. Phew. Those hives are still lingering on his legs but are slowly going away. Hoping he stays away from the doctor until his 2 year checkup next month!

See you tomorrow!

Would love to hear from you! 3 Comments

Rough week

September 12, 2014

While Maxwell has been on a high this week after all of the birthday fun, Spencer has been having a bit of a rough go!  It all started with a mild fever on Friday.  Not enough to slow him down but just enough to wear him out.  Then, at the birthday party on Saturday, he just got overtired, overheated and overstimulated and, unfortunately, spent much of the party doing this…

cranky

But, he took a great nap and seemed to be fine that night. The next day on Sunday afternoon, we got to go to a fun party at Jack’s house and the boys had a blast even if they were on clean up duty!  🙂

Don’t worry, they were given pizza in exchange for their hard work.  😉

We did learn that Spencer unfortunately has the same reaction to mosquito bites as I do!

mosquito

See under his left eye? It just kept swelling and growing.  By the time we got home, it looked like this…

eye mosquito

Poor buddy. He was acting fine though and slept all night with no issue. On Monday morning, he kept sleeping and sleeping and so I finally went into his room at 8:00am to wake him up only to find him COVERED HEAD TO TOE IN HIVES!

hives

I mean, his eyes were almost swollen shut! It was honestly terrifying. Thank goodness my mom was still in town or I might have lost it. I called the doctor and got him an appointment at noon.  In the meantime the nurse called me back and said it was very likely an allergic reaction to something and so we gave him Benadryl.  The hives were not bothering him at all so he got to enjoy the morning hanging at home watching Dumbo with GJ and Daddo. By the time I took him up to the doctor, the Benadryl had kicked in and his hives looked much better…but he was also pretty tired!

hives

He rallied and did great at the doctor despite the long wait.

hives

Dr. Walley took one look at him and said it was, in fact, not allergies but viral hives.  Yea, I’ve never heard of them either. Apparently it’s just a virus and, similar to Hand, Foot & Mouth, it’s pretty asymptomatic until the hives show up at which point you’re no longer contagious.  The fever on Friday was probably a sign of this coming but we’ll never know for sure.  Treatment is just a double dose of Zyrtec/Claritin until the hives go away.  By Tuesday morning, he woke up looking MUCH better!

hive free

Eyes still a little swollen but 90% hive free and feeling good!  We even got to go to another playdate at Jack’s house that afternoon where Spencer strutted his stuff!  🙂

strut

He still has 3 spots on his leg that haven’t gone away yet. Dr. Walley said it can take up to 10 days for all the hives to completely disappear.  He’s actually been scratching at those a bit so I hope they don’t end up bothering him.  Also, since he’s had such a rough week, I’m not going to give him too hard a time about pooping in the pool at swim lessons yesterday!  ha! Yep, Spence is ready for a new week indeed!

Happy weekend!

Busy Wednesday

September 8, 2014

We had a fun weekend with Maxwell’s fantastic (and fantastically HOT!) firetruck birthday party at the house. Full pics to come but first catching up on a few other things…

Last week Spencer had his follow-up appointment with the dentist to check on his teeth after he “busted open his whole mouf.”  The boys were SO well behaved and made me so proud. Spencer even sat on that little stool by himself and let the hygienist take x-rays of his teeth!

Such a big boy.

Thankfully we got a great report.  The dentist said he didn’t see any discoloration of the top tooth yet and that his bottom lip was healing nicely despite the “deep laceration” he had.

We’re still watching the tooth to make sure it doesn’t turn gray but hopeful we’re in the clear for a pearly white! yay!

All play, no work

August 19, 2014

First – Happy Birthday Jen! Hope it’s the best yet!!

Second – dentist update. I’m very glad I went on and took Spencer to the see the dentist. He said it was clear those front teeth were hit with some major force. Luckily, the front teeth aren’t loose and Spencer didn’t even wince when the dentist pushed on them. He was also concerned a bit about his lip. He said that all the redness on the front of his lip was where he almost bit completely through it. Ouch. The dentist did give us an Amoxicillin prescription to fight off any bacteria in the lip and teeth and (hopefully!) avoid the dreaded grey tooth. I had a dreaded grey tooth when I was a kid (thanks to an unfortunate incident with the driveway) and am still dealing with the ramifications of it today on my permanent tooth. Needless to say, I’m REALLY hoping Spencer’s tooth stays pearly white!

Third – weekend update. The boys were hard at work in the yard. We’ve got to get things looking good because we’ve got a special birthday party coming up in a few weeks!

And when I say “the boys” were hard at work, I think it’s safe to say that only 1 boy worked really hard and the other 2 just made a mess.  But they sure looked cute!

After they had all worked so hard, we thought everyone deserved a little play time at the tot lot.

Infected

June 20, 2014

Maxwell has strep. BOO. He woke up Wednesday night saying his throat hurt and by Thursday morning I could hear the thickness in his voice.  He was feeling a little better on Thursday and still went to his swim lesson but then the doctor confirmed he was strep positive.  Yuck. We are now armed with amoxicillin and should have him feeling better in no time.

Waiting patiently at the doc even though he didn’t feel good…

His reward for the strep test…

He was pretty excited.  Especially when you add in the Dum Dum he got too!  🙂

and let’s just all cross our fingers that Spencer doesn’t catch it.  I mean, it’s not like they’ve been separated the past few days…

brothers

Here’s to a healthy weekend ahead!
