Food!

April 25, 2013

At Spencer’s 6 month appointment, we got the go-ahead to start him on solids! There is no doubt my big boy is ready for some food! 🙂 I decided to just start with fruits and vegetables instead of rice cereal or oatmeal. Not sure why we always carbo-load our babies with processed food from the get-go instead of starting with fruits and vegetables? Anyway, I decided bananas was a good start so that’s what we did! He wasn’t real sure what to do with it in his mouth at first but he caught on quickly. The funniest part was Maxwell – who won’t eat a fruit to save his life – thought the jar of baby food bananas was pretty good too! I think he ate over half of his brother’s food! I might have to start buying double jars – one for Spencer and one for Maxwell! ha!

This is pretty much what it looked like when Spencer ate that first jar of bananas…

and here’s some videos if you’re really interested!

So far he’s had bananas, apples, pears and sweet potatoes. Adventures in eating!

Playdate!

April 24, 2013

Last Friday we had a little playdate over here.  It was a beautiful, spring afternoon and it just seemed like a good day to blow up the bounce house and invite a few friends over!  Maxwell had a blast – and only got upset about people playing with his trucks once!  🙂

The best part?  His BFF from school, “Will-wam”, got to come!  He was SO excited when William got here.  Two blonde peas in a pod!

6 months old!

April 23, 2013

Spencer is half a year!  Not surprisingly, it’s going way too fast!  He’s a giggly, happy, cheerful little guy, that’s for sure!  We love to tickle his tummy and get those good belly laughs going.  No one can make him smile like Maxwell though.  He just gets transfixed on Maxwell whenever he’s around.  Spencer is finally getting big enough that Maxwell can sort of “play” with him too which is fun.  And by “play” I mean Maxwell grabs him and tries to throw him around.  It’s like a little Wrestlemania but only one is wrestling!  🙂

Maxwell at 6 months…

Spencer is definitely bigger than Maxwell was but there are a lot of similarities – about the same amount of hair, doing good at sitting up, sleeping patterns.  Two sweet boys!

Spencer is still nursing 4 times a day but just started eating some solid foods this week!  So far he’s had apples and bananas and both seem to be a hit.  He’s a great sleeper at night.  I feed him and put him to bed around 7:30 and he gets up anywhere between 6:15 and 7:00.  Really hoping he starts leaning more toward the 7:00 mornings instead of the 6:15!  He can still only stay awake during the day for about 2 hours.  If we put him back down within that 2 hour window, he’ll usually go down for his nap with barely any fussing.  His morning nap is usually great – 1.5 to 2 hours.  Afternoon nap is currently not so great.  He’s in a bad habit of sleeping for only about 45 minutes and then waking up and not going back to sleep.  I’m not sure if teeth are causing that but hoping it gets better soon.  He won’t really take that 3rd afternoon nap anymore – which makes for some long afternoons for him when he wakes up from his afternoon nap at 1:00!  But, he’s happy and still sleeping great at night so I’m not going to worry about it (too much!).  He’s taking all of his naps in his crib.  He’s just about too big for the swing now!  🙂

A day game!

April 22, 2013

On Saturday, we met up with some friends and drove down to Tuscaloosa for the A Day game.  It was a beautiful spring day and we had a great time.  Maxwell loved getting to play with his friend, Chiles, and Spencer loved the view from the carrier strapped onto me!  Let me tell ya – carrying 20 lbs of baby all over the town and the stadium gets heavy!

The whole way down Maxwell was talking about getting a hot dog.  I have no idea where he got the idea but he was stuck on it.  Now, he’s never eaten a hot dog before (his choice) and when it came time to actually eat the hot dog in the stadium…well…

“No.”  figures.  (ps – I love the faces of the dudes in the background.  what?!)  He did warm up to the hot dog though and ate quite a bit of hot dog bun and maybe 1 or 2 little bites of the actual hot dog when it was all said and done!  🙂

Spencer enjoyed some lunch at the game too!

We all had fun and can’t wait for the season to begin!

6 month doctor report

April 19, 2013

I took Spencer to the doctor yesterday for his 6 month checkup and got a great report all around!  He’s 18 lbs, 3 oz (75th to 95th %) and 27.5 inches long (95th %).  I knew he was getting tall!  While he’s still a chunky money he’s definitely stretched everything out a bit!  We can see his neck now!  🙂  His head circumference was 17 inches (74th %).  For comparison, Maxwell was only 15 lbs, 13 oz and 26.5 inches tall.  Click here for Maxwell’s 6 month checkup report.  Spencer is just a bigger baby…and a very happy one!

Dr. Walley said his ears looked all clear and everything else looked great as well!  He did say that teeth are probably the culprit of his short naps lately.  He said while the teeth might not be preventing him from falling asleep, they are probably what are making him wake up after only 45 minutes or so.  Hopefully they’ll start to feel better soon.  Spencer did have to get a few shots but handled them like a champ.  Dr. Walley did give us to ok to start food so, fruits and veggies, here we come!

Happy to be seeing Dr. Walley!

and not so happy after sitting in the waiting room for 45 minutes (don’t even get me started!)

But, once we got into the room, Dr. Walley came in quickly and we were happy again!

I have no doubt he’s going to love starting to eat foods – especially given how much he loved this orange slice we gave him to suck on the other night!  🙂

Yay for good doctor reports!
