Orange Beach continued

September 6, 2013

After an “eventful” first day, Robert and I both just kept saying “it can only go up from here!”  And it did!  By Sunday morning Spencer was feeling a little better and Maxwell’s finger was looking much better.  Besides, it’s hard to not be happy at the beach when you wake up to this sunrise!

Sunday we enjoyed some more beach and pool time and then went out to lunch.  We had just settled in to wait on our food…

when it started pouring!  There were very few tables with any sort of roof over the but we made it work.

We were all fairly wet by the time lunch was over but you just had to laugh. Despite a sick baby and a nearly broken finger, we had it pretty good!

That night we went to dinner and enjoyed checking out all the boats…

Orange Beach

September 5, 2013

On Friday of last week, we hit the road early in the morning to head to the beach for a little vacation for the long weekend!

car ride

Robert’s parents have a condo in Orange Beach, AL that we stayed in.  What better way to celebrate this little guy’s 3rd birthday than with a trip to a beach named after his favorite color?!  🙂

We got there late afternoon and enjoyed a little beach time before dinner.

This little guy was happy to be there!

and he loved the water!

I loved that white sugar sand and the breeze that kept us cool!

Well, the breeze was more like a gail force wind but we didn’t mind.  and it made Spencer’s hair look awesome!  🙂

We went out to dinner that night where Maxwell got one final chance to celebrate his birthday!

happy 3rd!

Cheers to 3!  Things were going swimmingly until that night…Both Spencer and I had been fighting a cold for 2 days and his reared its ugly head on Friday night.  He woke up around 11:00 just miserable – couldn’t breathe, couldn’t get comfortable – and then the croupy cough started.  Poor guy.  I ended up sleeping with him all night and neither of us really slept more than 30 minute stretches.  Luckily, I had some prescription steroid medicine leftover from the last time he had the croup that we gave him around 5:00 am.  He helped and we made it to the morning.

Given his lack of sleep all night, I was going to stay in the condo all morning to try to get him to nap while Robert took Maxwell to the beach.  In trying to get everyone ready, I managed to SLAM Maxwell’s finger in the door.  And I slammed it hard.  His middle finger instantly swelled up and turned black and blue.  We seriously thought it was broken and called the walk-in clinic only to hear that they had 10 people in the back and another 10 in the waiting room.  Ugh.  We decided to just ice it and see how it was that afternoon.  Robert did convince Maxwell to go out the beach and I think the distraction was good for him!  I stayed in the condo and Spencer took a great nap.  Hooray!

We all took it easy that afternoon and stayed in to watch the AL game…

A little more…

September 3, 2013

Hope you all had a great Labor Day!  If you’re just catching up after a little vacation (which I hope you are!) then be sure to go back and check out Maxwell’s birthday post and leave a comment.  We’d love to hear from you!  We’re just getting back from a long weekend at the beach (yay!) and I’ve got some unpacking to do so today I’ve got just a few more birthday photos of things I want to remember.  It was such a fun day week celebrating Maxwell’s!

birthday more

Last week on Wednesday, I made cookies for him to take to school for his birthday like last year.  What kind of cookies did he want?  Elephants of course!

I was pretty proud of how they turned out!  Most important of all, Maxwell loved them!  His teacher, Ms. Betsy, sent me this picture of him enjoying them at school.

Apparently he didn’t want to wear the birthday crown.  oh well!  Please also note the “oh-runge” plates and napkins, a special request from Maxwell!  🙂

It was a great week all around and I can’t thank all of our friends and family enough for making my boy feel so special!  We loved having family in town, especially these folks…
