All play, no work

August 19, 2014

First – Happy Birthday Jen! Hope it’s the best yet!!

Second – dentist update. I’m very glad I went on and took Spencer to the see the dentist. He said it was clear those front teeth were hit with some major force. Luckily, the front teeth aren’t loose and Spencer didn’t even wince when the dentist pushed on them. He was also concerned a bit about his lip. He said that all the redness on the front of his lip was where he almost bit completely through it. Ouch. The dentist did give us an Amoxicillin prescription to fight off any bacteria in the lip and teeth and (hopefully!) avoid the dreaded grey tooth. I had a dreaded grey tooth when I was a kid (thanks to an unfortunate incident with the driveway) and am still dealing with the ramifications of it today on my permanent tooth. Needless to say, I’m REALLY hoping Spencer’s tooth stays pearly white!

Third – weekend update. The boys were hard at work in the yard. We’ve got to get things looking good because we’ve got a special birthday party coming up in a few weeks!

And when I say “the boys” were hard at work, I think it’s safe to say that only 1 boy worked really hard and the other 2 just made a mess.  But they sure looked cute!

After they had all worked so hard, we thought everyone deserved a little play time at the tot lot.

Mouth Trauma Drama

August 18, 2014

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend. Our weekend was much better than the end of our week last week, that’s for sure. On Thursday afternoon, I opened the door from running an errand to hear Spencer crying hysterically and Maxwell yelling, “Momma! Momma! Spencey fell and busted open his whole mouf!” Oh goodness.

There was poor Susan trying to console a hysterical Spencer who had fallen and, as Maxwell said, MAJORLY busted up the inside of his mouth. Apparently the amount of blood that came out of him was startling…and I’m frankly thankful I wasn’t home to see it. I did see the numerous towels that had been used to soak up the blood and, all I can say is, thank you Susan!

We’re not sure exactly what he hit but he tripped over a large tupperware bin with a school bus and rocket ship inside. He obviously broke his fall with his mouth and made contact with something that hit him just right…or wrong. The inside of his left lip was just destroyed and you could see the impact on the outside of his lip too. There was also blood coming out all around his top two teeth on the left.  I called the pediatrician and they said that we could take him to the ER but they really don’t do stitches on the inside of the mouth. I then called the dentist and he said that as long as the bleeding had stopped and the teeth weren’t majorly loose, we didn’t need to come in right away. I also called Robert in a panic saying “come home now!”…just the call everyone wants to get at work!

Spencer finally calmed down and, after we were able to get some Tylenol in him, seemed to do better. His poor lip was fat and you could just tell it hurt. He kept pointing at his mouth and just crying.  So sad. We actually had plans that evening to go to Family Night at The Club and actually decided to still go thinking the distraction might be good for Spencer.

He did pretty good – he’s one tough kid – but did melt down a few times, mainly whenever he would try to get a bite of something and remember how bad his mouth hurt.  🙁  Thankfully, the balloon man and the dance floor were very good distractions!

By the time we got home, he was beyond exhausted. We put him to bed and I was sure he was going to wake up in the middle of the night because his mouth hurt, but he actually slept the whole night through. Thank goodness because he needed it!  The next day his lip was just as fat as could be…

But he’s handled it all like a champ and has barely let it slow him down. I am taking him up to the dentist today to let them look at his two top teeth that got hit. That should be fun. ha.

So thankful it wasn’t worse! and another BIG thank you to Susan for taking care of my baby!!

Friday!

August 15, 2014

First, check out these swimming videos from yesterday. I’m just so proud of Spencey I could burst!

Jumping for it all on his own…

and getting to the side and out almost all by himself. Cannot believe he does this without crying now!

Second, it’s FRIDAY! Hope you have a weekend full of laughs…

Paci-free!

August 14, 2014

We did it. We pulled the paci plug. And it has been just as easy as it was with Maxwell.  Hooray!

Spencer is slowly (very slowly) but surely improving on his talking, but he still has a long way to go.  Even though he would only get his puppy paci during nap and night time, he would inevitably end up with it in his mouth at other times during the day. Either he would go pull it out of his bed or we would reflexively give it to him when he was mad, sad, hurt, etc. Every time there was a paci in his mouth, that was just one less time he was going to talk.  So, we decided it was time to snip that paci of that puppy’s head!

Maxwell’s beloved NeNe was (is) a Pacimal and I really like how easy it was to take the pacifiers off of those.  Spencer’s puppy however is a Wubanub and the paci is sewn in.  The only way to get it off is to cut it and you’re still left with a little sliver of rubber on the stuffed animal. Not perfect but it doesn’t seem to be bother Spencey.

We cut it off last week on Friday and gave it to him before bed. He was confused and just kept looking at it saying “Uh oh!”.

He then decided to just stick the puppy’s whole nose into his mouth! ha!

puppy

He did cry a bit that night and during nap the next 2 days, but, overall he’s adjusted like a champ. Puppy was the only paci anywhere in the house that he ever got so it was one and done. When I woke him up from his nap on Monday at 5:15 (!) I loved seeing him snuggling with Puppy up against his face…paci or not!

paci free

Of course his monkey blanket was right next to him too.

The best part is to now hear him on the monitor practicing sounds and words while he’s laying in bed at night and in the morning. We used to only hear the sucking on the pacifier! Paci gone, let’s get this boy talking!!

ps – after adding the links it looks like Pacimals are no longer being made? what?! I might need to stock up for baby #3 before they’re all gone!

Hard at work

August 13, 2014

As you know, firetrucks and firemen are tops around here. But, construction trucks and workers are a close second. Proof?  Well, we had a construction themed 2nd birthday party, got the outfit here, had plenty of construction fun here and more fun here and, finally, our house is a constant construction zone. I love it!

No surprise, Spencer is following in his brother’s footsteps…

construction

He keeps bringing me the goggles to put on and will stand there with his eyes squeezed closed until I get them on his head. Too funny.

Off to work!

See you tomorrow!
