big boy bed

January 13, 2016

When we were in Highlands for Thanksgiving, Spencer slept great in a twin bed. We decided that maybe it was time to move him out of his crib at home too! I’m not really sure why we thought it was a good idea, but Spencer seemed to be on board so we got that big boy bed on order! Funny – we also moved Maxwell into a big boy bed right after Christmas in January 2012. Maxwell was 3 years and 5 months. Spencer was 3 years and 2 months.

A few days before Spencer’s bed arrived, I went in to get him up from his nap and he was still sound asleep. I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of my baby in his crib. I love how he would put his monkey blanket on top of his elephant to use as his pillow. Of course, Puppy was in his hand!

The night before his bed was going to arrive, I snapped a photo of his last sleep in his crib. By the way, Spencer is a GREAT sleeper – never wakes at night and takes fantastic naps every day. This boy loooves his zzzzzzs! He was also about to bust out of that XXL sleep sack! ha!

When the boys came home from school that day, his big boy bed was all set up and ready to go! Complete with jungle sheets!!

Spencer said “it has yi-ons!! I yuh-ve it!” Translation: It has lions! I love it!  🙂

He then immediately started jumping on his bed!

First nap didn’t go too well. Too much excitement for sure! That night, he was still pretty excited and big brother helped get him tucked in…

Unfortunately, the first few nights were a little rough! He woke up several times just having trouble getting his covers straight, his pillow situated, etc. He’s gotten better though and, after a week is on a string of sleeping all night and even taking good naps during the day! Hooray! My baby is growing up and I don’t think I like it one bit. Thank goodness I’ve still got another crib with a baby in it in the room next door!

ps – Maxwell wanted some jungle sheets too so his bed got a little upgrade! 🙂

NYE

January 11, 2016

Happy Monday everyone! We’re almost finished recapping the holidays but still have NYE to get through! Let me tell ya – it was exciting!  🙂 Robert and I actually had fun plans and met a bunch of friends for lunch at Bottega. We then all went over to Sam and Emily’s house for desserts and cocktails. It was a good time catching up and chatting with everyone.

NYE

We were home by 6:00 just in time to watch the AL playoff game! Our little cheerleaders were in their colors and ready to go! Roll Tide!!

The game was a total blow-out. AL 38, Michigan State 0! Woohoo!

I was asleep by midnight and rung in 2016 just the way I liked…asleep! The next morning our new year started off with a bang – or really with a flat…

flat

Not the best way to start the weekend. But, Robert got it fixed that morning and we were good as new in no time…flat.  🙂

Happy new year!

More after Christmas

January 8, 2016

After a good dinner with family, we all headed back to the good ole HIE in Searcy. Thankfully the kids all slept really well. Maxwell did come get in my bed around 4am but, considering I had a double bed all to myself, I was happy to share…and snuggle!  🙂  The next morning, we took the free breakfast by storm…

and made the lobby our own playground!

So can these adults! 🙂

After breakfast, Robert and the kids and I loaded up and drove to Little Rock to see some of my forever friends. We noticed the traffic start to slow down around Jacksonville and thankfully Robert exited to take a service road and then some back roads allowing us to go around a section of the interstate that was completely flooded out! Had we not exited when we did, pretty sure it would have taken us double the time to get to LR and we would have missed lunch! Phew!

We met some friends up at Local Lime and had a great lunch. I so enjoyed getting to catch up with Laura, Erin and Laura and see their cute kids!

I don’t get back to Arkansas enough so I was glad we were able to make the trip, regardless of how short it was! After lunch, we hit the road back to Birmingham. The kids really were great travelers – thanks mostly to the boys’ new iPads with headphones! The baby did great too and even slept decently on the trip back. Still, after driving 12 hours in 2 days, everyone felt about like this by the time we pulled into our driveway Monday night….

Needless to say, we were glad to be home! It sure was an eventful and fantastic Christmas!

After Christmas

January 7, 2016

The day after Christmas the fun continued when my brother and his family arrived in Birmingham. The boys were anxiously awaiting Nate and Delaney…

and we were so glad to have all the cousins together!

My brother especially loved getting to squeeze on Samantha. I think he wanted to take her home with him!!

The next morning we all hit the road to drive 6 hours to Arkansas. We got there late afternoon and went over to John and Cara’s to see the Patterson side of the family! I was so excited for Granddaddy to meet Samantha. Even though her lip is stuck out here, she really did SO well all night despite having only slept about 30 minutes the entire car ride!

The youngest and oldest!  🙂

The cousins had fun playing together and Samantha checked out Tucker the dog.

All the cousins posed together…

and then we even got them to line up diagonally!  🙂

We then made all the grownup cousins line up too!
