Good news – I think Maxwell has turned the corner and getting back to his happy self! Hooray!
About two weeks ago on one of the last warm days, I took Maxwell to the park. I don’t know what was going on that day but the Tot Lot was PACKED. I’ve never seen so many moms and kids there! It was honestly a little overwhelming for me and Maxwell both. There were just so many kids running around it was hard for him to get on the playground equipment to actually play. Luckily we were able to get a swing and swung for quite a while.
Checking out the crowd with his hands on his hips…
Once some of the kids finally cleared off of the chain rope climb, Maxwell went at it. He’s been working on doing this all by himself and he’s finally gotten to the point where I’m comfortable enough to stand back and let him do it on his own. He has to take big steps to get up to each level but he can do it! Go Maxwell go!
Success! and brushing off the dirt…
I was so proud of him and he was proud of himself! as he always says, “yay me!”
It was really interesting to watch him that day with all those kids around…especially since several of them were older (around 6 or 7 probably) and pretty rambunctious. He just kept staring at them with a mixture of fascination and terror I think. At one point, he wanted to go play in the playhouse but then these three wild “big kids” came over and he just went to the corner of the fence and stood there and watched them…
At one point, two of the “big kids” went over and kind of got in his face for just a second. It took everything in my power not to go scoop him up and protect him but he was fine and they moved on. Honestly, I can barely look at that picture above without getting teary. He looks so little and vulnerable back in that corner. There is something about it that pulls at my heart – I just want to protect him from everything out there and I know I can’t. He’s still just my baby and I never want him to get hurt. and, yes, I think I’m still a little post-pregnancy hormonal! π
After a few minutes in the corner, he was back in front of the house with his hands on his hips again checking everyone out!
He never really did go play in the house with all those “big kids”. He preferred to just stick by me…and I preferred that too! π
I’m off to vote now! I voted!
Happy election day!
Huge accomplishment to climb that chain ladder – yay Maxwell! I want to say something to those big kids also!
You handled it much better than I actually have. I’ve discovered I actually dislike most kids.
