Friday Favorite

We’ve been watching even more Sesame Street than usual this past week and we all (me, Robert, Maxwell and Susan) love this DVD set of clips from episodes over the last 40 years.  It’s so fun to see the Sesame Street of “olden days”…before the Street was majority Elmo!  It’s been so neat to see that Maxwell is just as enthralled with the clips from the 1970’s and 80’s as he is with the episodes of today. I just wish they would release full episodes from all the years – I would definitely buy those!

Our DVD’s came courtesy of Maxwell’s Aunt Jenny, Uncle Ronnie and cousins Katie and Anna.  We love these DVD’s and highly recommend them to anyone with a Sesame Street loving kid!

We’ve got some fun plans this weekend to go out to Barber Motorsports to see the Indy Cars race!  Full report next week.

You know, just a typical week with a toddler.

Nee-Nee

As you might remember, I got Maxwell 2 Pacimals when he was just a few months old.  I got him both a monkey, Nanner, and a cow, Mr. Moo.  He has loved these things since the moment he got them.  We took the pacifiers off of them about a month ago and now the animals are his little lovies.  Well, one of them is his little lovie!  Mr. Moo has taken a CLEAR backseat to the one and only Nanner, or Nee-Nee as Maxwell calls him.

Maxwell was really good about only wanting Nanner during nap and night-time.  Every time he would get out of bed, he would throw Nanner back in the crib, say bye-bye to him and not mention him again until he went back to bed.  Well, the weekend that Robert and I went to NYC and Maxwell stayed home with Susan, that all changed.  I don’t know if having Nanner with him during the day made him feel more secure since we were gone?  All I do know is that since that weekend, we hear “Nee-Nee” all day long.  Maxwell will be playing with something else entirely and then just remember that his little monkey isn’t with him and then it’s “Nee-Nee, Nee-Nee, Nee-Nee” and off he goes to him room to get him out of his crib.

So far we’ve managed to keep Nanner at the house only.  We only let him leave the house for very special occasions…like a visit to the doctor to get a broken leg fixed!  🙂

Maxwell doesn’t carry Nanner around with him all over the house either.  He’ll usually pick him up, give him a little hug and then throw him across the room.  I think he just likes to know where Nanner is at all times, even if he’s not holding him.

He hugs him by rubbing him up against his cheek, right by his ear.  I think he does this because ever since he was a baby, Robert and I would rub Nanner on his face like that.  He even props Nanner up on his shoulder a lot.  So cute.

Because Nanner is such a favorite, I bought a second Nanner just in case.  The original Nanner is VERY well loved and I wasn’t sure how Maxwell was going to react to the new one.  But, he did fine.  Maxwell gave him a second look obviously wondering how Nanner got so fluffy again but then loved on him just like the original one.  I’m letting him have the new one for a few weeks to try to get it “loved in” a little and then we’ll switch out the old and the new to try and keep them equally worn.  I have a feeling the original is ALWAYS going to be the favorite though…even if he doesn’t really understand there’s a difference.

I know all kids have lovies, I had a blanket as a baby and then my beloved, world-traveling teddy bear, Snuggles, who just might still live on a shelf in my closet.  🙂  I think Nanner is going to be just as loved as Snuggles and will be the perfect lovie for my sweet little monkey!

Weekend recap

First, I’m trying to get this post done really fast because I have to get into the other room to watch Mad Men!  I am SO glad that show is back.  If you don’t watch – why not?

Since you all seemed to enjoy the weekend recap last Monday (did you enjoy it?  I’m just assuming there) I thought I would do it again.  We had another beautiful spring weekend here in Alabama.  The azaleas in our backyard are in full bloom, the grass is green and the temps are warm but not too hot.  Just lovely.

Saturday morning started off with a trip to Target that turned into a trip to Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond and Old Navy.  Maxwell was really excited about it on the way out…

But, he does love a good ride in a shopping cart so he was pretty happy in all the stores, especially since he had Robert’s “ga-ga’s” to play with.

While out, we did pick up Maxwell a hat.  The sun can be brutal on the playground and I had ordered him a little baseball cap from Old Navy to protect his face.  Robert informed me that that was not the proper hat for any son of his.  We came home Saturday with something that Robert deemed a little more appropriate!

Roll Tide!

That afternoon Maxwell took his nap like he usually does these days – with his whole circus of animals in the bed with him.  He loves to have all of his buddies, including Little Al, right there in the crib…

p.s. – don’t worry, Maxwell’s not in there smothered under the animals.  I had already gotten him up when I took this!  🙂

After nap came a neighborhood walk where Maxwell practiced the proper 10:00 and 2:00 hand position…

After that, a little playtime in the laundry basket…why not?

After dinner, Maxwell enjoyed some cookies (yes I gave him the whole bag because he really wanted it.  Yes, he did eventually dump out all the cookies onto his tray BUT he did help me pick them up and put them back in the bag.  Note to future visitors – stay away from the Goldfish Grahams! )

On Sunday morning, I sang Maxwell a rousing rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider during breakfast and he gave me a hearty round of applause!

We then played outside and tried to keep his cast out of the dirt…

and then went for our usual neighborhood walk.

I then tried to teach Maxwell how to play with the new Leap Pad I bought him…

We were only marginally successful.  He really just thinks it’s fun to push the buttons and pretend like it’s a giant phone!

While Maxwell napped I played baker using Jessica Seinfeld’s Deceptively Delicious.  I made Applesauce Muffins (with hidden squash) and Yellow Cupcakes (with pumpkin and yogurt).  Both really good and both enjoyed by Maxwell…especially the cupcakes!

Phew!  that was long!  It was a great weekend but now I’ve got a date with Don Draper.  See you later!
