Adventure playground

September 26, 2016

Happy Monday! It was a great weekend but still so hot, so so hot. I’m done with these 95 degree days and ready for some crisp, cool weather! Despite the temps, the kids and I still made it down to the new elementary school playground where they had a blast and I melted. It really is a cool playground with all sorts of fun things to climb on.

Spencer went across this spider web several times all by himself!

He was proud of himself – and I was too!

Maxwell went super high on the Eiffel Tower thing – higher than the kindergarteners are allowed to go during recess!  🙂

And don’t ask me how those two boys were making it in their long pants! It was sweltering! But, they love their long pants and I gave up that fight a while ago.

Can’t wait to play more in some fall temps soon!

Weekend ready

September 23, 2016

Who’s tired and ready for the weekend?

tired

Clearly we are! That guy had a busy week battling the dark side of the force…he also had a full week of kindergarten with an ear infection. Yep, took him to the doctor on Monday and poor guy had an ear infection. After a dose or two of bubblegum medicine, he was back to normal and didn’t miss a beat…though clearly he was a little more tired than usual.

This one also had a bit of a cold so stayed home from school on Monday but had a great day at school on Wednesday! No crying at drop off! Mrs. Laura said her personality is really starting to come through and that she’s a hoot! ha! She said you can definitely see she has no problems making her opinion known! 🙂  That’s my Tootie!

This guy is the only one that has escaped the congestion around here.

Let’s hope it stays that way!

Have a great weekend!

Mouth Trauma Drama again – yes, again

September 22, 2016

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Spencer fell out of bed on our Disney trip and really messed up his poor mouth. I’m obviously a magnet for mouth injuries – I had plenty as a kid, Spencer “busted his whole mouf open” about 2 years ago, and then Samantha tried to knock her teeth out just about a month ago. These mouth injuries better stop happening because I know my luck is running out!

As a reminder, Spencer fell out of bed and hit the bedside table with his mouth. His lips were busted, his front tooth was shifted back and bleeding…not good. I texted the dentist the next morning from Disney and got an antibiotic called in to start him on right away. Spencer forged ahead like a trooper but his mouth was sore and swollen. You can see here how swollen the entire right side of his face/mouth was…

mouth trauma

and here you can kind of see in there how busted up his gums and teeth were.

mouth trauma

Poor buddy. When we got back to Birmingham, I took him up to the dentist. Again, he was such a trooper. He wasn’t so sure about the x-rays…

dentist

but did what he was told!

The dentist said the X-rays all looked good. He said we got really lucky in how he hit – the front tooth did get pushed back out of alignment, but not so far back that it interferes with his bite. That means we can just leave it alone! Thanks goodness. So, now we just had to wait and see how his teeth would heal, whether or not they would turn gray, and if they would tighten back up.

dentist

He also said the worst part was going to be the ulcerated sores all in his mouth…he wasn’t kidding about that! I’ve never seen Spencer so pitiful and miserable as he was for the next 3 days. Those mouth sores were KILLER. He could barely talk. He didn’t want to eat or drink. I knew it was bad when he couldn’t even eat the chocolate ice cream he asked for!  🙁

teeth

It was no fun at all…for anyone! He kept wanting to look at his poor mouth…this picture makes me laugh because he was trying to get a photo of his mouth and you can see my face in the background just feeling all the hurt for him!

teeth

But, he healed up and we went back to the dentist for a follow-up this week…

teeth

The dentist said he looks great. The front tooth tightened back up and isn’t discolored (though there’s still a slight chance but I’m thinking we’re in the clear!). I can’t believe we’ve managed to escape the dreaded gray tooth again!! Hooray!!

Here’s hoping for NO MORE MOUTH TRAUMA DRAMA in this  house!!

Boosterthon

September 21, 2016

One of the big fundraisers at Maxwell’s elementary school is boosterthon. The kids get people to sponsor them a $1 or $2 for each lap they run. It’s quite a big deal and the kids earn prizes for how many sponsors they get…not sure I totally agree with all of it but, it is what it is. The school goes all out for the weeks leading up to it. One of the things they have is a door decorating contest. Parents are supposed to decorate the classroom door in the Boosterthon theme (which was something to do with movies this year) in advance of the run. Well, our class didn’t learn about this until 8:30 pm the night before it was supposed to be done. Since I’m assistant room mom and we live so close, I pulled some stuff together and got over there at 6:30am to decorate that door! Thank goodness for a good printer, a nice wrapping paper stash, and plenty of tape!

It wasn’t what I would have done with more time, but it turned out ok considering I put it together the night before!

The day of the Boosterthon was fun for the kids. It was a glow run which they loved.

After the run they all got to go outside and have popsicles.

According to Maxwell’s bracelets, he ran 57 laps. But, they only charged us for 35. I think that was the max they said kids would run and, considering it was a really small lap, I’m sure they just average it out. A big thank you to all of Maxwell’s sponsors – GJ, Daddo, Susu, Lulu, Granddaddy, and Susan!

Guess we better get used to Boosterthon – we’ll be doing it for many more years!

School mornings

September 20, 2016

So, I know it’s silly and I know I won’t do it all year (maybe) but I just love to snap Maxwell’s picture before he leaves for school. To me, the pictures of the little parts of daily life are the most fun and what I want to look back on them and think “oh yea, he used to let us walk him to school every morning and he always wore those pants and that was his favorite shirt and he was the cutest kindergarten ever.” Or, something like that!  🙂 So, school morning pics…

He obviously tolerates it some days better than others. Both boys were happy to take a photo on Friday though because it was GREEN day for Spencer and PJ day for Maxwell!

But you know what happened after that? Maxwell walked himself to school. Sniff sniff. He wanted to try it by himself and he did it just fine…I think my days of walking him to school are over. My big boy…

At least I still get to walk over and pick him up in the afternoon!…for now!
