My soccer star went to soccer camp last week and, despite the incredibly HOT temps, had a great time!
She, Frances and Jane went to camp at Samford from 8:oo to 3:00 each day…
and each day it got well into the 90s! Scorching! They were hot and tired by the end of each day.
Despite the heat, she wanted to go back every day! I think the new purple soccer socks helped!

The real champion of the summer baseball season? Samantha! She’s the very best ballpark baby for sure! She’s really learned so much about baseball and can totally follow the game. She’s very good at entertaining herself with whoever is around to play with. I sure do love having my sidekick with me at the games…even if she does drain my money at the concession stand!! ha!
She was such a trooper all season often going with me from Spencer’s game straight to Maxwell’s game. Lots of driving all over town and late nights at dirt fields. She hung in there and never (well, almost never) complained.

Spencer also played summer baseball and had a great experience! Last year he played on the AA team. This year he they put him on A and that was frustrating at first but ended up being the best thing because he got to play all the positions he wanted to play and really be a leader on the team.
Spencer pitched quite a bit and his pitching improved dramatically from the beginning to end of the season. He also proved he’s a fantastic catcher and a really good 2nd baseman!
The most fun game was when we got to play our friends on the other A Mountain Brook team. We won!
The team did decent during the season with 2 wins and 4 losses. However, when it came tournament time everything came together and they played AWESOME! The team peaked at the right time! They made it all the way to the championship game!!
The semi-finals were really tough. We played at 5:30 on Friday night. If we won that game we would have gone straight to the championship game the next day. But, we lost so had to play again at 7:30 to try and earn a spot in that championship game. The game didn’t even start until after 8:00 and, boy, it was an exciting game!! It ended up going into 2 extra innings but Spartans Gray came out on top!! We had a rough moment where Spencer didn’t slide into second (that’s an automatic double out in this league) and we thought that was going to be the end but the team wasn’t going to have it and went to one more extra inning and won the game! Spencer made some great plays and pitched really well to get them to that point.
The championship game was on Saturday morning and, considering we didn’t leave the ballpark until 10:15 the night before, it was an early day! But, the boys were excited and ready.
They played really well and hung in there but didn’t win. I don’t think it bothered them too much though. I think winning the game the night before was the true test of a champion and they showed what they were made of! Besides, 2nd place got a ring too! Woohoo!
Spencer really developed as a ball player throughout this summer season and I am so proud of him. He’s a great player and an even better teammate – always cheering for his team and encouraging them. I love this kid. Coach Brown did a good job too! A little tough love at time but I think the boys all learned a lot from him.

Maxwell had the opportunity to play GBBA summer baseball this year. Normally he can’t play because the end of the season overlaps with the start of camp but they let a few boys play this year and just miss the final tournament. I think he had a good time. He just played outfield but had some good hits.

He’s a good ball player and I just love to watch him play!
