Greystone

June 24, 2024

Spencer and I picked up our Greystone girl on Friday morning and I got the biggest running jumping crying hug ever and it was the best! We missed her so much and I’m so glad she’s back – but I’m also so happy she got to experience camp. Going to the three week session ended up being the right decision – she said she was homesick the first week but then got over it and wasn’t sad at all the last two weeks. Hooray! I think staying that long at camp allowed her to work through the homesickness and then get into a routine and really have fun. She made some cute friends, did lots of activities and crafts, and gained some independence! I’m so proud of her and, most importantly, she’s proud of herself. Lots and lots of pics from the 3 weeks to share starting with day 1!

The girls in her cabin were: McCarty, Charlotte, Piper, Perry, Gianna, Dilly, Helen, Sloane, Eloise, Jane and Bitsy.

I figured out that Sloane is the daughter of one of my friends from Vandy! What a small world. It was even more fun when I saw the pics of Samantha and Sloane together the first full day of camp! They had tons of activities together and had fun together the whole session!

Samantha did all kinds of activities – I think her final schedule ended up being: MWF – Drama (they did the play Frozen), soccer, volleyball, tumbling, cooking, ceramics and crafts. TThS – drama, knitting, painting, sewing, archery, waterpark, and tennis.

Of course I loved seeing these tennis pics!!

Yard Goats

June 17, 2024

That’s a wrap on baseball for Spencer! What a fun season. As I mentioned earlier, he joined the AA team this year and it was a great move. He got to play a LOT of baseball and these guys put in the work and it really paid off. Spencer proved his spot on this team. He’s been first batter all season and almost always got on base. He did his job!! He also played catcher all season and made fantastic plays. He didn’t get to pitch nearly as much as he wanted but, when given the opportunity in the final tournament, he took full advantage of it and shut the game down striking out a batter and throwing a runner out at home. I’m so so proud of how much hard work he put into this season – it was long and hot and he rarely complained. His positive attitude is the thing I will always admire most about him. He takes it all in stride, doesn’t let the losses get him down for long, and is always ready to step into whatever position is needed. He’s the best.

I already shared the pics of the tournament in Mississippi where they took home first place! Lots of pics from the rest of the season to share too…starting with the Buffalo Wild Wings tourney in Fultondale where they came in runners up!

Next up was the long, hot tournament in Hanceville in Cullman County. Talk about some small town dirt fields!

No ring at this tourney – they lost in the semi-final game where Spencer was up to bat with 2 outs and struck out not swinging. But, he learned a lot and honestly, it had been such a long day that I don’t think anyone was sad about going home!

We then played in the Mother’s Day tournament in Calera – complete with pink socks for the boys and new hats for the moms!

We were becoming experts at managing the long hot days sitting in a ball field under tents drinking “goat juice” and eating chicken fingers from the concession stand!

We had some good spectators at that tourney too!

Goats came in Runners Up that day! The hardest fought game was the semi-final and we were really proud to walk away on top of that one! I’m not sure anyone minded the 2nd place bling for this tourney.

We then played in a tournament in Vestavia and this is the only picture I have from that one…ha!

On top of all of these, we had our regular season OTM games too…more baseball tomorrow!

Off to camp!

June 7, 2024

Last weekend Samantha and I made the drive to drop her off at camp! We were planning to take my awesome new car and then we discovered a nail in my slowly leaking rear tire the morning we were supposed to leave. Not good! Thankful we discovered it before we hit the road and thankful we had GJ’s car to take instead!

We loaded up and hit the road to Traveler’s Rest where we met up with some friends. We grabbed pizza and walked around the town for a bit…

Then settled into the glamorous Hampton Inn for the night. It got the job done! We met up at Starbucks the next morning…

then went to the Wrinkled Egg to meet up with more friends…

all together

June 6, 2024

Samantha is now off to camp. Maxwell leaves next weekend. Spencer leaves at the end of the month. They’re not all gone at the same time but they all overlap some which means this trio won’t be together again for 5 whole weeks.

camp

Makes me sad but I’m happy they’re all getting to do what they want to do this summer. Samantha picked Bricktop’s for dinner before leaving…good choice.
