Skiing

April 12, 2022

On Sunday morning we took the kids down to ski school. None of us really knew what to expect – and when we arrived before 9:00 we also didn’t know it didn’t actually start until 10:00! That was ok though – it gave us plenty of time to get situated and get the kids where they needed to be.

They were all in a group together with 3 other kids and an instructor named Spencer.

They all seemed pretty excited and had no problem letting us leave. Phew!

Robert and I then went back and got geared up for a fun day of skiing together!

We hit up green runs all morning trying to find our ski legs again. Robert’s ski legs seem to come back much faster and easier than mine! ha! Robert spent the morning zooming down and then waiting on me to make my way down the mountain. He’s a good skier and a good sport!

After lunch we were feeling pretty comfortable so went on a blue run. I promptly bit the dust 10 seconds into the run. But, I got back up, figured out what I needed to do and made it down. We then skied blues the rest of the day with no issues. I just needed a little time to get going! It was a pretty – and warm! – day. Temps were in the 50s and 60s and we were peeling out of layers all day. Also gotta love this goggle and helmet head!

ski

We picked up the kids that afternoon and they had all had the BEST day! They loved ski school and were so excited to show us what they had learned so we went down the bunny hill with us a few times to show off their new skills!

I was so impressed with how quickly they picked it up! The most fun day for all!!

We made it back to the hotel and hit up the hot tub…can’t beat it.

We were tired…the best kind of worn out from all the fun tired…so ordered room service and called it a night! A great first day of skiing!

Robotics

February 28, 2022

As I mentioned in November, Maxwell and his robotics team earned a bid to the state competition at Auburn. It was over President’s Day weekend and turned out to be a really cool experience! We made a full weekend out of it and stayed at Lake Martin with friends whose son was also competing at the competition.

The boys got up and headed to Auburn bright and early Saturday morning.

The girls and Spencer came a bit later. We watched the matches but also managed to get out for some lunch and sunshine. It was a beautiful day!

What a crew!

It was a long day for the boys inside the coliseum. It was a full day of matches with lots of sound effects, jokes from the announcers, and plenty of sitting around. But, the event was extremely well run and efficient! No surprise there.

The spectators did managed to get outside and enjoy the sunshine between matches.

All that sitting and watching was definitely made better by cotton candy!

The merch was pretty funny too…

And some of my favorites of the announcer jokes…

“What was the robot’s favorite dance? The roomba!” hahaha!

“You’d think french fries came from France, but no. They came from grease!” hahaha!

Maxwell and his team didn’t make it to the finals but they had a great day. They learned a lot, had some really good matches driving their robot, and took in the full experience. I’m so proud of them!

The school was pretty proud of them too!

Maxwell is excited to do it again next year and try to qualify for worlds!

Wildcats

February 23, 2022

Spencer’s rec basketball team this year was the Wildcats and they had quite the talented coach! They had a good little team and fought hard every game. They ended the season with a 7-3 record and tied for 2nd place in the regular season. Woohoo!

wildcats

Spencer was a sure shot most games and played both wing and point guard. I was so proud of his hustle!

bball

Robert had his work cut out for him with this team – had a few head cases. ha! Robert had to work on the team’s mental game more than usual but he handled all with care and was an A+ coach!

Go Wildcats!!

Shooting Stars

February 22, 2022

We’re back from a really fun long weekend. So much to catch up on – including basketball! Samantha played for the first time and really enjoyed it. Her team wanted to name themselves the Shooting Stars but their coach decided to call them the Spartans. Boring! I’m sticking with the Shooting Stars!

First grade plays 3 on 3 half court. It’s…interesting to watch! ha! There’s not a lot of dribbling but they manage to get the ball in the basket every now and then!

bball

Samantha, as always, hustled hear heart out on that court. She had some setbacks this season including a pretty bad sprained ankle but she made the best of it and gave it her all when she was out there. She got the Toughness Award and I can’t think of anything more fitting!

toughness

So proud of my tough girl! Looking forward to lots more basketball with her in the future!

Go Shooting Stars! ⭐️
