Graduation

June 2, 2023

Maxwell is officially an elementary school graduate! I’m so proud of Maxwell. He excelled at MBE and made the most of his 7 years there. Straight As, exemplary behavior, involved in all kinds of activities – he’s an all around great kid! Graduation was a special day and he looked extra sharp in his new suit!

First day of Kindergarten…

Graduation was in the auditorium which worked out well because it was a rainy morning. We ended up being able to snag seats for Spencer and Samantha too so they got to come watch.

All the graduates looked very nice up on stage in their best attire!

They gave out a few awards during graduation…but no academic awards. I have thoughts on that which I’m sharing with the principal! In my book, Maxwell got the STEM Robotics award and the All A Honor Roll! I’m also going to give him the “kind, cool kid” award!  🙂

After getting their diploma, the graduates stood alongside the wall and Maxwell ended up standing right beside me and Robert. We loved this! Maxwell did not. ha!

Luckily there was a break in the rain right after graduation so all the kids got to go outside and shoot off confetti canons! fun!!

6th grade baseball

April 27, 2023

After so many nights and weekends spent watching Maxwell play, his rec baseball career has come to an end. What fun it has been to watch him play and improve so much since his first t-ball season in 2016! He’s a great baseball player and I really hope he sticks with it and plays at the Junior High next year.

baseball

This year was fun because Robert was able to put together a team of all 6th graders which included several of Maxwell’s buddies. This was a team of really good kids and they had fun playing together. Maxwell was a leader on the team and proved himself game after game to be a valuable member of the team. Along with Pryor, he was our best pitcher and I’d say he was definitely our best catcher.

I just really love to watch him play. His awareness on the field is superb and he knows where the play is at all times. GJ loves to watch him play too!

It wasn’t easy for Robert to make it work to coach – it’s a huge time commitment – but I think he’d agree when I say it was the very best time commitment he could have made this spring. I hope Maxwell always remembers these last two years of baseball with Dad as coach. I’m so proud of both of them.

baseball

The team ended up about in the middle of the pack with some great wins…including in the first round of the tournament when Luke hit a single homerun over the fence to win the game! Pretty exciting!!

Sunday morning we were happy to see the Easter Bunny had brought some goodies! He also hid some eggs inside the house. Fun for all.

Snowmass

Skiing day 4! Last day, best day!

ski

ski

Bluebird skies, decent temps, perfect conditions!

Our only downside came late morning when Spencer had a collision! I was skiing behind them and watched it happen. Spencer had gone into a tree trail and came out of it onto the run just as an old man was coming down the far left side of the run. Spencer should have looked up and yielded but he was just going too fast and couldn’t stop. He skied on across while the man came down and they clipped skis and both went tumbling. Thankful no one was hurt. I got Spencer up and we skied down and apologized to the old man. He was skiing with what I assume were his two grown sons. They didn’t seem too happy with us but the old man said he was fine and so on we went. Spencer was not hurt but definitely shaken up. A good learning lesson for all!

Lunch break!

Just a little worn out by our last afternoon on the slopes!

But we still made it a full day and skied until the lifts closed!

We grabbed dinner in the village that night and then it was time to head home the next morning!

Thankfully our flights were on time. It was a little touch and go getting out of Aspen but, after de-icing the plane, we were able to take off and made it to Atlanta in plenty of time for our connection. Thankful for time away with my favorite people doing something we all enjoy! Best spring break ever!!

Snowmass

April 6, 2023

We got up on Tuesday ready for our second day of skiing…and bundled up even more than the day before! It was colder – I think in the single digits with wind chill in the negative – and not very much sun. This was honestly about the coldest I’ve ever been in my life. But, we just covered every inch of exposed skin and got on with it!!

ski

The day started a little…rough. There was a ton of snow the night before so the runs were full of fresh, deep powder. We started down a blue. Samantha fell and got stuck in the deep snow. I dug her out (I’m always the clean up crew), she fell again on top of me, my skis came off, I got her skis back on and sent her on her way. I then had to try to get my skis on and find them down the mountain. I went the way they had gone…which I’m pretty sure was an ungroomed black full of fresh, deep snow. I fell and could NOT get my skis back on. Got up, fell again, not going well. I finally finally made it down and just burst into tears because that was NOT how I was wanting to start the day. But, I made it and lived to ski another run! Thank goodness.

Despite the temps and gray skies, we had a great day. Can’t you just see how cold it is in these pics?

But we were proud of ourselves!

We eventually stopped for a much needed lunch break…

and then the sun peeked out for just a bit! Hooray!

We kept skiing until the lifts closed…
