I am home. I am sore and weak but I don’t care because I am home…and that makes me happy.
Know what else makes me happy? This awesome greeting from Susan and Maxwell…

Yet potentially so far away. Yesterday started out great. I had my appetite back and was feeling somewhat human again. My surgeon came by around 9 am and said that if I continued to have a good day (she wants me to be fever free for 24 hours before leaving) then she will let me go home Wednesday. While the last thing I wanted was another night in the hospital, at least there was an end in sight! My mom even sent me this cute picture before coming up to the hospital to spend the day with me…

I think he looks a little distraught because he misses me. Distraught face or not, I was glad to see his picture.
I continued to feel better all day and then, around 4:00, my fever spiked and I was quickly reminded that I am still very sick and not out of the woods yet. My 102 temp broke about an hour later just in time to see this sweet face…

His visits always make me feel better. He also had a good time playing with GJ while he was here…

As I write this (on my iPhone in case you’re wondering) I am hoping for a fever free night and a good report from the surgeon tomorrow. After more fever today, I’m afraid my departure might be delayed another day.
I want my baby. I want my bed. I want my shower. I want to go home.
Thanks Robert for the post title! So, Maxwell is on his 3rd day of whole cow’s milk and he’s doing just fine. Below is a picture Robert took with his blackberry…sorry about the quality, I’m working with what I’ve got!

That picture was taken around 7am and I love how his little eyes are all squinty like he’s just not quite sure he wants to be fully awake yet!
I wish I could say that I’m doing fine too…but I am nowhere close to fine. I have infections and essentially poison spreading all over my body and, let me tell you, it is terrible, scary and beyond painful. To give you an idea of how sick I am, I didn’t even want Maxwell to come up and visit. I honestly don’t even have the energy to sit up and look at him. That makes me so sad. Luckily Robert didn’t listen to me though. Seeing this little boy’s face was just the boost I needed!

While I was initially hoping to go home today, it’s looking like that’s not going to happen until Wednesday or Thursday.
I’ll take any prayers I can get for the pain to subside, the infections to die, and my fever to go down. Much appreciated!
To all those that have called, emailed, sent flowers, etc… Thank you!!! It really means so much. I promise to get back to all of you when I have a little more energy.
Well, it was an interesting weekend around here. On Wednesday of last week I started not feeling so hot. I honestly thought all of the tomatoes I had been eating (remember that caprese salad!) were giving me indigestion. I loaded myself up with all kinds of medicine and really thought I was on the road to recovery. Friday mid-day we hopped in the car to go to the lake with Robert’s family 3 hours outside of Birmingham. By the time we got up there I was feeling pretty bad and it just continued to worsen as the night went on. Around 9pm the pain definitely felt like it was localizing on my lower right side and I was really scared that I was 3 hours from home with an appendicitis. Yikes! Robert wasn’t convinced that was the issue and we decided to try and get some sleep and re-evaluate it in the morning. Well, sleep did not come for me! At 1:30am I woke Robert up and told him that we needed to pack up and get me to the hospital. We loaded the car, transferred a sleeping Maxwell to his car seat and set out on the longest 3 hour drive of my life! We almost stopped at Huntsville but decided to push on to Birmingham and I’m so glad we did because now we’re able to have Susan come help with Maxwell. Thank goodness for Susan! I might be nominating her for sainthood soon! 🙂
Robert dropped me off at the ER around 5am and they immediately did a Cat scan to verify that it was an appendicitis…although it was pretty obvious. The scan showed that not only did I have an appendicitis, but it was ruptured. Not good at all. A rupture greatly increases your chance of infection and can actually be fatal. Scary!! After a long time waiting, I was finally taken into surgery at 12:30. My surgeon was fantastic and able to do the surgery laproscopically so I won’t have a giant scar. Hooray! However, since it was ruptured, I have to stay in the hospital 4 to 5 days so they can pump me full of antibiotics. All I want to do is get home and see my buddy. Luckily Dad brought him up to see me yesterday morning…

Best medicine there is! Another side effect of this surgery? Maxwell has been unexpectedly weaned. He’s had cow’s milk the past two days and so far, so good. We’ll see.
I’m doing ok. Just very, very sore and ready to go home. The kicker of it all? My mom asked me on Thursday if I thought the pain was from my appendix. I assured her it wasn’t. Guess you really should always listen to your mom!
Here’s another cute picture that Robert sent me in the hospital so I don’t miss Maxwell too bad…

While the picture is great I can’t wait to get home!
Today’s Friday Favorite is our new carseat!  This is a bit of a risk considering we’ve only had it one week and I don’t really know if it’s going to be a hit or not.  But, we committed to the Britax Boulevard so I’m going to be optimistic and make it a FF!  🙂  You can read all about it here – Britax.  We’ll have it for a while as it goes up to 70 lbs and will turn into a forward facing seat when Maxwell reaches 40 lbs.
We got ours at Buy Buy Baby and couldn’t wait to get it out of the box. Â Luckily Robert had a helper to get it all ready…
A super helper who couldn’t wait to get in there…
A helper who really wanted to do it himself…
A helper who eventually pushed Robert out of the way so he actually could do it himself!
Then it was time to hop in…
And I think he likes it!
We’re off for a fun weekend driving around with the big boy car seat! Â Hope you all have a wonderful weekend too!
