Here Comes Peter Cottontail

Like last year, we drove down to Montgomery on the Saturday before Easter to go to the annual Inscoe egg hunt.  It’s a fun time for all and a great opportunity for Robert to see lots of high school friends.  Thankfully Maxwell mastered his boot-leg walking on Friday before we left so we didn’t have to carry him all day.  Once we got there (with only a 20 minute nap in the car) he didn’t stop for one second.  He was practically running all over the yard.  I have to say it – he looked pretty darn cute limping around in his seersucker and black boot!  As my mom keeps saying, “bless his little heart!”

While he was roaming around a majority of the time, he did stop for a minute to take in the scene from this good vantage point…

**please also notice that Maxwell has a cookie in his hand in every single picture!  sweet tooth!

Maxwell was glad to see all of his family like Lulu…

and Aunt Jenny.  He was so excited to see Jenny that he ran right up to her and gave her a high 5!

Jenny totally got into the occasion and rocked an Easter bonnet…with all the frills upon it!

Maxwell was gearing up for the hunt by carrying his “bag” around with him all afternoon…

And when it came time for the hunt, Maxwell instinctively knew exactly what to do!  He got out there and starting putting those candy eggs in his Easter basket just like he had done it 100 times.  And he did it all with a cookie in one hand to boot!  This boy’s got skills…

After collecting his eggs, he had to sit down and check out his loot…

I think he was pleased with his haul and promptly dumped all of his eggs out onto the ground only to pick them all back up again! I know his hair looks red in those pics but it’s really just the light.

The rest of the afternoon went great.  We played with cute cousins…

Explored all areas of the yard…

and had a slightly traumatic run-in with a bunny!

The best part of the day was that Robert got to catch up with some old friends…

and we got to spend a little quality time together as a family!

Maxwell was clearly thrilled.

Outta his way!

Happy Monday!  We had a great Easter and I hope you all did too.  Ours was great for 2 big reasons.  The first reason is that Maxwell can walk in his boot!  On Friday he totally mastered a leg stuck out to the side, peg-leg pirate like walk and he didn’t stop all weekend long!  It made egg hunting much more fun since we didn’t have to carry him around!

The second reason our Easter was great is because Maxwell went to sleep in Montgomery in his pack-n-play after only two minutes of crying!  If you’ll remember our history of trying to get Maxwell to sleep away from home then you’ll know this is cause for major celebration!  Hooray!!  We were able to enjoy dinner with Robert’s family and not worry about Maxwell screaming upstairs.  He slept all night and woke up happy as could be.  His naps on Saturday and Sunday were a different story but we’ll save that for tomorrow!  🙂

I took tons of pictures that I’ll get to asap but, for now, he’s a little sneak peak of him in his Easter finest!

A boy in a boot

New boot = new pictures!  Gotta document it all, right?

He’s doing pretty good with it.  It’s really hard to walk in so crawling is still his main mode of transportation right now!

While the baths are nice, I’m almost thinking a cast would have been easier.  The boot has about 6 different velcro flaps that you have to close in the right order and I didn’t do it right yesterday and poor Maxwell had rough velcro rubbing on his leg for half the day.  Mom of the year here!  So sorry, buddy.

Luckily, I don’t think he’s too mad at me.  Sweet, sweet boy.

Give him the boot!

Yesterday we went to Maxwell’s follow up appointment with the orthopedist and we are now CAST FREE!  Hooray!  They said his leg was healing great and he would be fine with just a boot for the next two weeks.  Fantastic news!  The best part of the boot?  Maxwell can take a bath!!  He has to wear it all the time but we can take it off to give him a bath.  Needless to say, Maxwell enjoyed a half hour bath last night full of splishing and splashing!

Below is video of the cast removal if you want to see.  It’s not that exciting but I had never seen a cast being cut off before so I thought it was interesting.  Apparently the saw can’t cut the skin because it just vibrates.  Here’s a good explanation:  The saw vibrates, but does not rotate. If the blade of the saw touches the padding inside the hard shell of the cast, the padding will vibrate with the blade and will protect your skin. Cast saws make noise and may feel “hot” from friction, but will not harm you — “their bark is worse than their bite.”

Back home and loving the first real bath in two weeks…

Maxwell is allowed to walk with the boot on but I think it’s going to be pretty difficult for him.  The boot is big and makes his left leg much longer than his right.  I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it soon though.

Of course we saved the little cast for posterity…

We’re glad to have that cast off and be this far on the road to recovery!
