Things of interest

December 21, 2012

Another Friday and another list of things of interest…

1. Spencer has his 2 month doctor check-up today.  I’ll post an update with his stats later today.

2. If you’re a regular reader, you know Maxwell has a love of all things firefighter, especially firefighter hats!  He loves them so much, he’ll even wear two!

He’s going to make sure his brother loves them too!  🙂

3. Maxwell has been wearing Christmas shirts pretty much every day the past two weeks.  Gotta get good use out of them before the season is over!

3. I was drinking coffee the other day (actually a chai latte and I never really drink straight coffee so not sure where Maxwell learned the word?) but Maxwell informed me that he has coffee at school in his “coffee cup”!  I asked him if his teacher drinks coffee and he said, “no, me!”  hmmmm…..

4. Both boys had on their Christmas pj’s yesterday morning so here’s a little preview of Christmas morning!

adorable.

5. I went to a cookie exchange party this week and made these Soft, Chewy Ginger cookies and they were really good!  My favorites that someone else brought were these Cornmeal Lime cookies.  (her recipe was a little different but this Giada recipe is close).  Sounds strange but so good!  like a margarita in a cookie!

That’s all for today!  As long as the rain holds off we have a fun weekend planned – a trip to Zoolight Safari!  See you later!

Would love to hear from you! 2 Comments

The Jolly one

December 20, 2012

Continuing with our weekend recap, on Saturday evening, after all of our family visitors were gone, we went over to the house of some friends to see Santa again!  I dressed the boys in matching shirts and tried to get a picture of them before we left…

Yea, that didn’t go so well.

At the party “Santa Wayne” was super jolly but Maxwell still really didn’t want anything to do with him.  We took our time and just watched Santa for a while before we got near him and that seemed to help a bit.  Maxwell did finally agree to go close to him as long as I held him and he did tell Santa that he wanted both a fire truck AND a train track this time!  Glad we got that done!

Santa even had a gift for both Maxwell and Spencer.  so nice!  Spencer got a piggy bank and Maxwell got a John Deere camera.

He was running around like the paparazzi all night snapping everyone’s picture!

He was also running around stealing cookies all night!  Everyone was laughing because whenever they saw him he had a new cookie in his hand.  I think he ate parts of 5 different Christmas cookies during the party. ha! He was on a sugar high!

There were also two little dogs at the party and, honestly, Maxwell was more scared of them than he was of Santa.  That surprised me.  He didn’t want those little puppies anywhere near him!  Guess he’s more like me than I thought!

A fun night!

Xmas Brownfest 2012

December 17, 2012

What a jam packed weekend we had!  We had vists from family, parties with friends and even a visit with Santa!  The fun started on Saturday morning with Christmas Brownfest 2012.  What started as a small gathering of 4 visitors quickly turned into a party with 16 guests and lots of fun!  Almost all of Robert’s family from Montgomery came up (we missed you Jenny, Katie and Holland!) and all of his family from Huntsville came down for a mini holiday family reunion.  It was a such a good chance to see how much all the cousins have grown and catch up with everyone.  I hope we can do it every year!

Before everyone got there, I really wanted a picture of me with my two babies…easier said than done!

One crying and one not paying attention…

One “smiling” and one fussing…

Ditched one got a decent one of the other…

ha!  I’ll keep trying!

Once everyone got there, I took lots of pictures and I’m just going to let them tell the story of the day…

What a fun day!  Ya’ll come back next year!

things of interest

December 14, 2012

1. Shatterproof ornaments are a great invention.

2. After several 70 degree days in December, a cold front finally moved in and it feels much more like Christmas.  Cold weather also means we had to bust out the super cute sweater and cap that Susu knitted for my boys…

Adorable!

3. Obviously, Spencer is a very good eater!  🙂

4. Maxwell is finally saying his name.  After almost 28 months of being called “Maxwell” every day, he finally decided to answer the question, “What is your name?” by actually saying “Maxwell!”  He’s SO proud of himself when he says it too.  Couldn’t be cuter if he tried.

5. It’s the weekend and I’m glad.  As if we haven’t already terrified Maxwell enough, we’re going to visit jolly old St. Nick one more time on Saturday!  Maxwell’s gotta tell him he wants a train track…wish us luck!

See you Monday!

Deck the halls!

December 13, 2012

As I mentioned last week, I changed up our exterior Christmas decorations this year a bit.  Growing up, we always had wreaths with traditional red velvet bows on all the windows of our house…

and I loved how it looked all lit up at night!  My dad always did the BEST job getting those trees completely covered in lights!

Man, I love that house.  My parents sold it about 4 years ago and I miss it and everything it stood for every single day.

To capture that traditional holiday feel, I decided our house needed wreaths with red, velvet bows on every window too!  Thanks to Susan’s extraordinary bow-making ability, our house now looks like this…

I absolutely love it!  Our Christmas tree shines through the window that is set back on the far left and the garland on the stair rail is lit up at night too.

It looks so merry to me!

Can’t forget our fancy mailbox too!

All we need is some snow on the ground!  It makes me so happy every time I drive up to the house!  I think Spencer likes the decorations too…

Merry merry!
