Zoolight Safari

December 26, 2012

Hi all! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! Ours was an adventure as always. Sunday Maxwell came down with the croup and was up barking like a seal all night long. We had him at the doctor by 8am on Christmas Eve and got some a steroid prescription and it worked pretty quickly, thank goodness. He was feeling much better by that afternoon and slept pretty good that night. Good thing because he needed to be rested up for Santa’s visit!

Despite Maxwell’s nasty cold, we had a great Christmas day and, yes, Santa did deliver that fire truck and choo-choo track he asked for! He also brought Spencer the school bus that Maxwell had requested for him. That Santa is pretty good! Full details on Christmas day to come tomorrow.

For today, a little zoo action. On the 22nd, we went to Zoolight Safari. It was really neat and really, really cold! We bundled the boys up as best we could – Spencer in a fleece bunny suit and Maxwell in his Elmer Fudd hat…

Ready for some lights!

We met some friends there and Maxwell got to hang with his new buddy, Jack.

Notice those red mittens on Maxwell (or mit-mits as he says!) – those are now his favorite things and he’s been wearing them every day, even though it’s been 60 degrees out!

We rode the train…

and the carousel…

After that, we were freezing and decided we had had enough Zoo for one night so headed out to get some pizza. A fun holiday night!

See you all later!

Would love to hear from you! 2 Comments

Ho Ho Ho

December 24, 2012

Back in mid November, the boys and I visited Santa.  Maxwell was not fond of him at all!  We ended up using one of the pictures from this day on our Christmas card this year – check back tomorrow to see it if you haven’t already!

A few other photos from that day that didn’t make the card…

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve!  We’re off to bake some cookies (and by that I mean open a package of Oreos!) to leave out for Santa tonight.  Can’t wait to see if Maxwell gets the fire truck and choo-choo track he’s been asking for and if Spencer gets the school bus that Maxwell told Santa his baby brother needed!

Merry Christmas!

Candy House

December 10, 2012

Growing up, one of my favorite Christmas traditions was the candy house that my brother and I would decorate every year.  It’s sort of like a gingerbread house but it is a house made of wood that we would cover in icing and candy.  I always loved doing it!  Here’s me and my brother with our candy house circa 1986…

Oh yea!  We still have that original wooden candy house but it’s staying at GJ and Daddo’s.  But, over Thanksgiving, my mom surprised me and my brother with our own candy houses hand-made by my dad and Marc!  Best gift ever!!  I am SO excited to start the candy house tradition with my boys!!

On Friday, Maxwell, Spencer and I set out to decorate it.  We had plenty of icing and candy…

First we covered it in icing.  Maxwell was a big help…

A really big help…

Yep, such a big help.

See that side of the roof?  That’s about all the icing he actually got on the house!  🙂

Unfortunately, my other helper was feeling a little bah humbug during the decorating process…

I think he was just sad he wasn’t getting to “help” the way Maxwell was!

We then put all the candy on and, again, my assistant was really helpful…

How did I get so lucky to have such a good helper?!  🙂

In the end, we ended up with a fantastic looking candy house (that Maxwell actually really did help decorate)…

and two happy boys!

Can’t wait to continue this tradition every year!  Ho ho ho!

Dentist

October 16, 2012

I took Maxwell to his first dentist appointment last week.  I really had no idea how it was going to go, especially considering he doesn’t even really like for us to brush his teeth!  In preparation, I bought a Dora book about visiting the dentist as well as this cute book about animals brushing their teeth.  We read both of them a LOT in the two weeks before our visit and I do think they helped, especially the Dora one.

Maxwell was a kind of cranky and needy that morning and our appointment was at 8:00am so I was a little nervous to say the least.  But, he did GREAT!  He had fun playing in the waiting room for a few minutes…

and sitting in the green car to watch Toy Story.

When it was our turn to go back, the first thing they do for new patients is let them put their handprint on a ceiling tile.  Almost the entire ceiling is covered in colorful handprints.  So fun and Maxwell loved it!  He then chose the red chair (which were more like benches) to sit in.  He wasn’t quite ready to do that by himself so I climbed up and held him on my lap.  The hygienist could not have been sweeter and was clearly used to working with little dudes like Maxwell.  She let him touch everything and explore it all before going anywhere near his mouth.  When it was time to clean his teeth, I was so surprised at how cooperative he was!  Go Maxwell!

Here you can see a bunch of the handprints…Maxwell made an orange one!

He was such a trooper and I was so proud of him!

After his teeth were all cleaned, the dentist came over and said that everything looked great.  He said we should be using flouride toothpaste (we already were) and brushing 2x a day (we’ve only been doing it once but changing that!).  He also said we should try to start flossing…um, sure.  🙂  He did give us some of those plastic things with the floss on them that should make it easier but we’ll see.  We still haven’t tried it at home yet!  He said all of Maxwell’s teeth are coming in just as they should and that he’d see us again in 6 months!  Thanks for a good report Dr. Johnson!

After the good report, Maxwell got to pick a little toy and we came home with a green bouncy ball that he keeps trying to bite.  That can’t be good for his teeth!  Ironic, huh?!

Yay for good dentist reports!

and p.s. – on a totally unrelated note, here’s a short video for you.  Maxwell was playing with this app on my ipad and the lady says, “oh no piggy!” and Maxwell kept repeating it as “oh no pee-pee!” and it’s just too cute for words.  It makes me laugh and I love hearing his sweet little toddler voice.

I’ve probably watched it 100 times.  If you can’t see the video, click here.

First Day of School!

August 29, 2012

Monday was Maxwell’s first day of school and it went great!  His new teacher, Ms. Juli, couldn’t be sweeter and I think he’s going to love his new class. As a reminder, click here to see some pictures of his first day of school last year.  He’s grown a lot!  Here he is ready for his first day this year…

first day of school

Sweet boy!

Luckily we didn’t get any of this when I dropped him off…

He wasn’t quite so sure about going into a new room at first, but then he spotted the awesome train table and he couldn’t get out of my arms fast enough. I don’t even think he noticed I left!  When I went to pick him up, he was the last one there!  Oh no!  Bad momma!  I was still 5 minutes early but I guess everyone else just got there even earlier.  whoops!

If you’re curious, we decided to go on and hold Maxwell back now instead of later.  Being an August 30 birthday, he could have moved on up into the two year old class this year as the cut off is September 1st (meaning you have to turn two by September 1).  However, Robert and I knew we didn’t want him to go into kindergarten in a few years as the very youngest so, instead of having to keep him in pre-school when he’s 5, we decided to go on and hold him back now so he’ll go through all of pre-school with the group of kids that he will go to kindergarten with.  It was a tough decision as he’ll always be the very oldest in his class but I think it was the right one for us.

Here’s to a great year of school!

See you tomorrow on Maxwell’s BIRTHDAY!

Would love to hear from you! 5 Comments
