Florida!

June 10, 2013

I spent all last week down at GJ and Daddo’s house in Naples.  I just worked from there while GJ played nanny.  She gets an A+!  Even though it rained every single day and we only got to get into the pool once for about 3 minutes, the boys still had a great time.  Give them GJ, some trucks, and room to run and they’re happy as can be!

I flew down there with them last Sunday.  My first time on a plane by myself with both of them – we made it just fine!

We flew into Tampa and my mom picked us up and we drove the 2 hours on to Naples.  Not a fun drive but better than having to layover and switch planes in Orlando.  I was hoping both boys would sleep the whole drive but…no.  Maxwell entertained us for quite a while until finally doing this about 15 minutes from the house…

Once we got to Naples, we had a great time just running around outside (when it wasn’t raining!)…

Food!

April 25, 2013

At Spencer’s 6 month appointment, we got the go-ahead to start him on solids! There is no doubt my big boy is ready for some food! 🙂 I decided to just start with fruits and vegetables instead of rice cereal or oatmeal. Not sure why we always carbo-load our babies with processed food from the get-go instead of starting with fruits and vegetables? Anyway, I decided bananas was a good start so that’s what we did! He wasn’t real sure what to do with it in his mouth at first but he caught on quickly. The funniest part was Maxwell – who won’t eat a fruit to save his life – thought the jar of baby food bananas was pretty good too! I think he ate over half of his brother’s food! I might have to start buying double jars – one for Spencer and one for Maxwell! ha!

This is pretty much what it looked like when Spencer ate that first jar of bananas…

and here’s some videos if you’re really interested!

So far he’s had bananas, apples, pears and sweet potatoes. Adventures in eating!

Johnny jump up

March 27, 2013

Guess who got his first swing in the Johnny Jump Up last week?  Spencey!  I think he liked it…even if he didn’t really jump yet.  He had fun just swinging around.  I kept thinking he just needed more traction under his feet so I tried him with a non-slip pad and then pulled his pants up so he could jump barefoot.  Neither change really made him jump but that’s ok.  He’ll get the hang of it soon!

Not so sure about the non-stick pad…

And frankly a little unimpressed with the whole idea of jumping!  🙂

But barefoot was pretty fun!

I think he’s going to like it just as much as his brother did!

Switcheroo!

March 25, 2013

We did a little switching things around here this weekend.  Maxwell’s room is now Spencer’s and Spencer’s room is now Maxwell’s!  I always wanted to move Maxwell into the other room, I just didn’t do it before Spencer was born for a variety of reasons.  But, now seemed like as good a time as any so we switched the cribs, moved all the toys and books and officially declared Spencer’s old room as Maxwell’s new “big boy room!”  This is definitely the right move for the long run because it’s a bigger room and it has it’s own bathroom.  Now maybe we can finally move all of the Maxwell’s toothbrush stuff out of the hall bath!

You can see pictures of the two rooms here – Spencer’s old room and Maxwell’s old room

We did move Maxwell’s crib into his new room and asked him if he wanted us to make it back into a crib or leave it as a toddler bed like this…

toddler bed

He wanted the toddler bed…until it was time to take a nap.  After explaining to him the rules of a big bed and how he can’t get out unless we come in to get him, he decided he wanted to stick to his crib and sleep sack.  Fine with me!  I’m happy to keep him contained in that bed as long as he wants!  🙂  I didn’t put the bumpers back on the crib though and we put a pillow in there with him instead.  He seems to like that so far.

We also figured out that Maxwell can turn on the light in the room from the crib because it’s right by the door!  ha!  He’ll just have to learn to leave it off or learn to sleep with the lights on I guess!

Spencer seems just fine with his new room and slept all night through in it!  He doesn’t even seem to mind the giant MBB monogram over his window that he’s just going to have to live with for the time being!  🙂  I don’t know how to change it without re-doing the entire window treatment and I’m not going to do that.  I did get him a new “S” pillow for the chair to try to make the room his own!

In addition to the big room switcheroo, we had a jam packed weekend complete with a failed attempt at dying eggs with shaving cream (post to come), a trip to the swings (in between the rainstorms), two dinners out (thank you cooperative boys!), and an Easter egg hunt at church.  Whew…it was busy and fun!

Ready to head to church…

Ear Infection

March 21, 2013

Well, not a fun first around here…Spencer has his first ear infection.  Poor guy.  He’s had tons of congestion the past week and yesterday morning he wouldn’t nap and I could just tell that something wasn’t right.  Up to the doctor we went and, sure enough, his left ear is infected.  So, we’re now armed with Amoxicillin and hope we can get him feeling better soon.  He also got weighed and is up to 17lbs, 10oz!  whoa!  big boy!

Even with an ear infection, he’s still a happy little guy…

The doctor did say that he’s probably too young to really have allergies so I guess the pollen wasn’t the culprit of the congestion after all.

Hoping that ear clears up quickly!
