Last week I took Samantha in for her 8 year checkup and got a great report all around! She is 49 inches and 56 lbs. That is 25th % for height and 50th % for weight. She’s grown 1.75 inches and gained 6 lbs since her 7 year old visit. Dr. Crum said her BMI is perfect and she’s a healthy, growing girl!

Spencer at 8 was 51 inches tall (50th %) and 58.2 lbs (55th %). Maxwell at age 8 was 50 inches tall and 52.4 lbs.

She did have to get her finger pricked which she REALLY doesn’t like but she handled it so got some C is for Cookie ice cream after!

Unfortunately, my healthy girl didn’t stay healthy long! As soon as we got into the car after her appointment she said, “my throat kinda hurts!” Not sure why she didn’t mention that while we were actually in the doctor’s office but we got to go back up there the next day to get a positive strep test. No fun at all. She was pretty miserable for a day but then the antibiotics did her job and she was back to her normal, healthy self!

Thankful for antibiotics and good doctor reports!

Samantha is one step closer to getting braces after getting a tooth pulled on Monday! Her appointment was at 9:30 so she just got to stay home that morning and enjoy a Starbucks treat before her appointment!

She was VERY nervous about it all, mostly about the shot she was going to have to get in her gum. She got the laughing gas and pretty soon didn’t seem so nervous at all.

Dr. Thomas is so sneaky, Samantha didn’t even know when she got the shot! She was so relieved when I told her the shot was already over!

She handled it all like a champ. The worst part was when she finally set up and didn’t know what to think about her numb lip! She’s never had a numb lip  before and kept saying it felt like there was a grape in her lip! ha!!

She was back to school in time for lunch and happy to flash her new grin the next day! That $10 special from the tooth fairy made her smile too!

Love my brave girl. Now it’s almost time for braces!

Samantha has been complaining about pain in her heel for a few weeks – really since basketball season started. When I noticed she was walking on her toes all the time I decided it was finally time to do something about it! I took her up to see the same pediatric orthopedist that I had taken Spencer to when he was having foot pain.

He diagnosed it as Sever’s disease which is inflammation at growth plate in the heel in growing children. Basically she hit a growth spurt, is super active, and made the area around that growth plate mad. She will grow out of it eventually but will just have to manage the pain with rest, ice, stretching and heel gel inserts. I hate for her to be in pain but glad it’s not something more serious. If it doesn’t get better over the next few weeks we might have to consider a boot!

She did get her first x-ray which she thought was pretty cool!

Because of that x-ray we learned she’s special like Spencer! They both have an extra bone in their foot! Spencer has an accessory navicular bone while Samantha has an os trigonum which is an extra bone behind the ankle bone. I always knew they were special!! Wonder if Maxwell has one too? He’s pretty special as well.

We made it back to school just in time to have lunch with her friends.

Hoping we can get that inflammation down quickly. This girl is too active to to have to slow down!
