Mouth Trauma Drama again

August 17, 2016

As a kid I seemed to get hit in the mouth a lot. I had several incidents with teeth damage – starting with a fall on the concrete driveway when I was around 4 (?) that resulted in a gray baby tooth. That damaged baby tooth lead to an adult tooth that is discolored to this day. One of my biggest fears has been that my kids will get a gray “dead” baby tooth. It almost happened 2 years ago, with Spencer’s fall that totally tore up his mouth and hurt his teeth. It was terrible but thankfully, THANKFULLY he has no lasting damage. Well, literally 2 years TO THE DAY of that incident, Samantha fell too. What are the odds? August 14th is clearly not a good day in my book!

On Sunday night I got Samantha out of the bath and wrapped her up in her hooded towel. She took two steps, slid on the wet floor and, because her arms were wrapped up in the towel, caught herself on the tile floor with her front teeth.  I knew immediately that it was bad. Her teeth were bleeding and she was screaming and it was my worst fear coming true. Ugh. She recovered pretty quickly and we got her to sleep. I took her to the dentist the next day. She had to get up early from her nap to go so BaaBaa and her paci got to go with us…

A little unsure about this whole dentist thing!

She didn’t want anything to do with getting an x-ray but actually happily let Dr. Thomas look at her teeth. He said she hit really, really hard. She hit so hard the tissue between her teeth tore. 🙁  Like with Spencer, he gave her a round of antibiotics and now we just wait and see. If they are going to turn gray it will happen in the next 2 weeks or so. Dr. Thomas gave it a 50/50 chance. I am heartbroken. Please, please don’t let my sweet baby’s teeth turn gray!! Prayers for healthy, white teeth are very appreciated right now!

18 month checkup!

July 28, 2016

Earlier this week I took Samantha in for her 18 month checkup and Dr. Walley agreed she’s basically perfect!  🙂  She was a little unsure walking into the room…

18 months checkup

and really unsure after I had to hand her over to Nurse Shelly to get weighed!

18 month checkup

Samantha is a big girl! She’s 32 & 3/4 inches tall (90th %) and 28 lbs, 10 oz (95th %)!! Dr. Walley thought she just looked great. He said it’s good that her height and weight continue to increase at the same rate. He said if she still continues growing at this rate by the time she’s two, she’ll probably end up being quite tall!

The boys stats at this age…

Maxwell at 18 months – 33 inches tall (90th %) and 24 lbs, 13 oz. (50th %)

Spencer at 18 months – 34 inches (98th%!!) and 27 lbs, 6 oz (95th%)

She and Spencer are pretty on par with each other…Samantha is just about an inch shorter and a pound heavier!  🙂  My lovable, squeezable baby!

While waiting for Dr. Walley, she had fun finding her belly button…

Reading her book…

and chewing some tongue depressors!

She was really sweet to Dr. Walley and didn’t fuss at all. She was showing off all of her words and tricks too – she was naming things in the book like shoe, ball, flower, bottle, juice, and bath. Smart girl! She also waved bye bye to him and blew him a kiss! She did have to get two shots which she didn’t like but she recovered quickly.

Always thankful for good doctor reports and healthy, happy babies!!

Exciting stuff

July 25, 2016

What’s just as exciting as another Monday? A trip to the dentist! ha!

I took the boys to the dentist last week and got good reports all around. Spencer was being Mr. Drama and cracking up the hygienist. He did not like the toothpaste and kept making these terrible faces before she even got any in his mouth. By the way, the toothpaste was grape flavored – his choice!

Once the cleaning was done he was just a funny little chatterbox…Why you got those gloves? What’s her name? Why you wear that mask? He was on a roll!

Maxwell was a model patient, not surprising.

Dr. Thomas doesn’t think Maxwell will lose a tooth anytime soon. His molars are still pretty far down.

Thankful for healthy teeth! Happy Monday!

Allergies

May 13, 2016

Ever since Spencer was a baby, his allergies have given him issues. Evidence here and here. His eyes get super red and itchy but, the worst part, is that he can’t breathe. He has allergy induced asthma and he’s been on Singular for over a year to manage it. We also started a daily inhaler recently. Dr. Walley said that, at this point, we should get him allergy tested and check into the possibility of weekly shots to try and reduce his symptoms and get him off of some of these meds.

Last week we went up for the testing. We stopped off for a cake pop on the way…I thought he deserved a treat before we even got started!

The allergy doctor has a good waiting room which entertained Spencer plenty…

then we got into the cool dinosaur room and waited…

allergy

and waited and waited and waited.

A full hour and 15 minutes after our appointment time, the doctor finally came in. They tested Spencer for a variety of trees, grasses, dogs and cats. He really was so brave and did so well for all of it.

allergy

But, when those allergens started to react – poor, poor buddy. He just wanted to scratch them all so bad!! I spent the next 20 minutes trying to distract him and blowing on his back.

The nurse finally came in and recorded the “scores”. He got a +4 (the highest level!) on all the trees and grasses. Whoa. The allergy doctor – who has been doing this for years and seen has 1000s of patients – was even a little shocked at how inflamed they were and the fact that he was only 3 years old! He definitely recommended starting the allergy shots asap. The idea is that the shots will hopefully help him wean off of the daily meds he’s having to take now and hopefully eliminate the issues with asthma.

We went back up this week on Wednesday for the first round of shots. Spencer was incredibly well-behaved and did SO well during the shots. Here he is showing me his 3 bandaids….

allergy

and saying, “Momma, I was re-wee brave!!”

allergy

Yes, he was really brave. I hate he’s having to do this but am just hopeful it will help. One round of shots down…only 3 to 5 years to go!

Have a great weekend!

15 month checkup

April 29, 2016

Samantha went in for her 15 month checkup yesterday and she looks great! Fun in the waiting room…

checkup

and then not as much fun after having to get weighed and measured. She didn’t like being handed over to Nurse Shelly!

15 month checkup

She looks fantastic overall. She’s a big girl – 26 lbs, 5 oz and 31 1/4 inches tall! That’s 75th-95th% on both and Dr. Walley said she’s really at about 90th% on weight! wow! She’s a strong, healthy baby girl!! She’s grown 2 inches and 4 lbs since her 12 month appointment. I think that’s because she’s such a good eater!  🙂

For comparison, at 15 months, Spencer was 25 lbs, 11 oz (90th %) and 32 inches tall (95th-98th %).

Maxwell was 23 lbs, 31 inches tall at 15 months.

A few pounds difference between them all but very close and all within an inch of each other. We’ll see where they all end up as they grow.

Samantha is meeting all her milestones in terms of talking, walking and other motor skills. Phew! She was nice to Dr. Walley and let him check her out. She did have to get 2 shots though which she felt like this about it…death stare.

15 months

Poor baby. All the fun wore her out and she fell asleep on the ride home…

My sweet, big, growing, healthy and happy baby girl. Always thankful for good doctor reports!
