Time for your checkup!

February 6, 2017

Samantha went for her 2 year checkup on Thursday of last week and got a GREAT report all around! Waiting for our turn…

dr

and then finally standing on the scale happily! This is huge for her! The past few times I’ve taken her she would kick and scream and not stand on the scale. Then, a month or so ago, she had to go with me when I took one of the boys and she watched her brother stand on it and has done it happily ever since!

scale

Stats? 35 and 1/4 inches tall (90th %) and 30.2 lbs (75th to 90th%). So, still at the top end but leaning out just a bit! Since her 18 month checkup, she’s grown 2.5 inches and gained a little under 2 lbs.

Maxwell at 2 years – 34 1/4 inches (75th-95th%) and only 26.4 lbs (25th-50th%). He’s always been my skinny minnie.

Spencer at 2 years – 35 1/2 inches tall (75th to 95th%) and 30.2 lbs (75th to 90th%). So Spencer and Samantha are almost the exact same size at two!

Samantha had plenty of fun playing while waiting for Dr. Walley…

and then couldn’t have been happier or more delightful when he came in!

She even gave him one or two of her happy yet ear piercing screams! 🙂 Always thankful for good doctor reports! Hooray for healthy, thriving babies!

Except…we were back up there the next day because Maxwell had strep…again. 3rd time in 6 weeks. We’re going to see the ENT in two weeks and it’s looking like a tonsillectomy is in our future. Spencer has stayed free of strep up until this time but I’m afraid he caught it from Maxwell this weekend. We’re going up first thing this morning to get him checked. Go away strep!!

Time for your checkup!

November 7, 2016

Happy Monday! Last week I mentioned to Maxwell that I was taking Spencer up for his 4 year checkup and Maxwell said “when am I going for my 6 year checkup?” Ummm…guess I just forgot all about that! Luckily Dr. Walley was able to do a two-fer and they go to go at the same time!

Overall, both boys look fantastic. They are healthy, growing boys!

Maxwell is 45 and 1/4 inches tall (50-74th%) and 40.4 lbs (50th%). He’s pretty much always been in that 50-75th%. Maxwell has grown 2.5 inches since last year and gained 4.4 lbs. Based on his %, Dr. Walley predicts Maxwell will be at least 5’10 and likely taller.

checkup

Spencer is 41 and 1/4 inches tall (75-90th%) and 39.6 lbs (75-95th%). He’s consistently been in that % too! Spencer has grown 3 and 1/4 inches since last year and gained 3.6lbs. He’s getting tall and leaning up! Dr. Walley said if he continues in this % he’ll probably end up being around 6ft or taller!

Just for comparison, Maxwell at 4 was 40 and 1/4 inches tall (75th – 95th%) and 33.2 lbs (50th – 75th%)

If you’re paying attention to all those stats it means that Maxwell is 4 inches taller but only 1/2 lb heavier! ha!

My lean Maxwell and my sturdy Spence! Totally different yet both perfect!

And, because I like to do things like this, here are their yearly photos with Dr. Walley!

A Little of this

October 6, 2016

A little of this, a little of that!

Fun at the playground…

Spencer was squirting water on the outside of the door and Baby went and got a towel to dry it off from the inside! ha!

A visit from cousin Margaret…

Maxwell got to go hang with his buddy, Butler…

I tried to load up the car and looked over to find these two like this in the garage!

Unfortunately, later that morning I was up at the doctor with Samantha to learn that she had a double ear infection. Her first! Can you believe that?

ears

That was on Monday and she was feeling back to 100% by Wednesday. I took them both up for Spencer’s allergy shots on Wednesday morning…

allergy

but by Wednesday at noon I got a call from the school that he had 101 fever! Poor Buddy! Took him to the doc and seems to just be a fever virus. We have to get him well because we’ve got an Incredible Hulk party this weekend for our favorite almost 4 year old!

That’s all for now…see you tomorrow!

Mouth Trauma Drama again – yes, again

September 22, 2016

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Spencer fell out of bed on our Disney trip and really messed up his poor mouth. I’m obviously a magnet for mouth injuries – I had plenty as a kid, Spencer “busted his whole mouf open” about 2 years ago, and then Samantha tried to knock her teeth out just about a month ago. These mouth injuries better stop happening because I know my luck is running out!

As a reminder, Spencer fell out of bed and hit the bedside table with his mouth. His lips were busted, his front tooth was shifted back and bleeding…not good. I texted the dentist the next morning from Disney and got an antibiotic called in to start him on right away. Spencer forged ahead like a trooper but his mouth was sore and swollen. You can see here how swollen the entire right side of his face/mouth was…

mouth trauma

and here you can kind of see in there how busted up his gums and teeth were.

Poor buddy. When we got back to Birmingham, I took him up to the dentist. Again, he was such a trooper. He wasn’t so sure about the x-rays…

dentist

but did what he was told!

dentist

The dentist said the X-rays all looked good. He said we got really lucky in how he hit – the front tooth did get pushed back out of alignment, but not so far back that it interferes with his bite. That means we can just leave it alone! Thanks goodness. So, now we just had to wait and see how his teeth would heal, whether or not they would turn gray, and if they would tighten back up.

dentist

He also said the worst part was going to be the ulcerated sores all in his mouth…he wasn’t kidding about that! I’ve never seen Spencer so pitiful and miserable as he was for the next 3 days. Those mouth sores were KILLER. He could barely talk. He didn’t want to eat or drink. I knew it was bad when he couldn’t even eat the chocolate ice cream he asked for!  🙁

teeth

It was no fun at all…for anyone! He kept wanting to look at his poor mouth…this picture makes me laugh because he was trying to get a photo of his mouth and you can see my face in the background just feeling all the hurt for him!

teeth

But, he healed up and we went back to the dentist for a follow-up this week…

teeth

The dentist said he looks great. The front tooth tightened back up and isn’t discolored (though there’s still a slight chance but I’m thinking we’re in the clear!). I can’t believe we’ve managed to escape the dreaded gray tooth again!! Hooray!!

Here’s hoping for NO MORE MOUTH TRAUMA DRAMA in this  house!!

Things

September 2, 2016

Catching up on things around here the past week or so…

A huge thank you to Susan for the awesome birthday gifts! Captain America, Hulk, and Cinderella!  🙂

susan presents

Another huge thank you to GJ for making the incredible Avenger masks! The Captain America and Wonder Woman masks were the party favors at Maxwell’s party. The Hulk will be used for Spencer’s part in October and the Wolverine and Iron Man were just for the boys. GJ’s the best!

masks

We loved having all of our favorite people in town last week to celebrate Maxwell!

family

In other good news, Samantha’s teeth are still white!! Woohoo! After the unfortunate fall, I was really worried her front teeth were going to turn gray but, we’re past the 2 week mark and they are still white so we should be in the clear. We went back up to the dentist this week and he was able to get an x-ray and good look at them and said they looked great. Phew!

dentist

In other not so good news, Samantha’s second day of school did not go so well. 🙁  She was having plenty of fun with brother before we left…

red shoes

and she looked awfully cute in her new red shoes…

red shoes

but she just didn’t have a good day. She was crying when I left and the teacher said she was just very clingy to her all day and could never really get happy. She didn’t even eat her lunch! They were worried that she was maybe getting sick but, nope. She was fine by the time we got home. When I picked her up at school, she didn’t even smile when she saw me but actually started crying – it was almost as if she was just overwhelmed with everything and was so relieved to see me that she just couldn’t hold the tears in. Break. my. heart. Oh, sweet baby. I guess the only way to get her to like school is to keep going – so, we’ll be back next week and will be hoping for a better day.

That’s it around here. Have a wonderful long weekend!
