We had Maxwell’s birthday party at the house last weekend on the Saturday 9/6. I had really wanted to try and do it at a park but Maxwell insisted on having it in the backyard and I’m glad he did because it turned out great. While he originally wanted the party to be about all rescue vehicles (police, fire and ambulance) we convinced him to just go with a firetruck theme (much easier on me!).

The big treat? Getting this giant firetruck bounce house delivered at 7am!

To say Maxwell was excited would be an understatement!

And to say he was excited about taking pictures in front of the bounce house would be a lie.  🙂

But, he obliged for a few and made me happy.

We got the backyard all decorated with balloons, set up two bubble makers and brought out plenty of shovels and buckets for the sand table…

Then we waited for all of his friends to show up! We had a great turnout with about 18 kids plus other special guests Susan and Barry, Lulu and Granddad and, of course, GJ and Daddo!

After the kids had worn themselves out playing in the blazing hot sun, we brought out the cake (which was from Olexa’s and was FANTASTIC)! Of course Maxwell’s best buddy, Lila, was standing right next to him as everyone sang and I don’t think anything could have made his birthday better!  🙂

But then Cecily wedged herself in between Maxwell and Lila and I was laughing to myself as I watched Maxwell give her the evil eye!  ha!

He got over it pretty fast though and happily blew out his candles and then everyone enjoyed a big slice of cake!

A fun, successful, hot 4th birthday party in the books!! Happy Birthday Maxwell!

On Monday, Maxwell wanted to give his bike another go so we went down to the school playground where there was lots of flat space for him to ride. After a little convincing, we even got him to ride down there on the street.

When we got to the playground, Maxwell wasn’t much interested in riding his bike but then some friends showed up with their bikes and scooters and, all of a sudden, Maxwell was much more interested!  Davis is about Maxwell’s age and had his scooter…

but his older brother, Harrison, is about 2 years older than Maxwell had his bike and he could go really fast – without training wheels! whoa!  Maxwell loved watching him and wanted to ride with him…at a much slower pace!  🙂

All the boys were then riding loops around the playground and Maxwell was keeping up with them just fine!  Well, maybe not keeping up (they were going really fast!) but riding with them like a big boy!  In this case, a little peer pressure was a very good thing for him!  He hasn’t fallen once since he got the bike and is really gaining his confidence on it. I was so proud of him!

Of course brother had to get his turn in on the way home!  🙂

The birthday fun is still going around here and we’re getting ready for a firetruck birthday party this weekend (please no rain!!). But, Maxwell also got to celebrate his birthday at school on Wednesday.  His request for his school treat?  Elephant cookies just like last year…

When you’re 4, the birthday festivities start as soon as you get up in the morning!  No waiting until dinner to celebrate, that’s for sure!  Maxwell was surprised with presents, balloons and cake all before 8am!

He got so many great presents from sweet family! He’s well outfitted now with a Mickey Mouse watch, a fireman raincoat and new fireman pi’s! We also got him a new Playmobil firetruck, ambulance and police car.  They’re pretty neat with all sort of little itty bitty pieces and he looooved them!

He also got a new bike! with an orange bell too!  woohoo!

He was excited about the bike but said he’d ride it “tomorrow”!  🙂  He was much more excited to go play with his new rescue vehicles!

We then sang Happy Birthday, blew out the candles and had cake for breakfast!

That night, Maxwell got to wear his new raincoat to go to dinner at – where else?! – the Mexaurant!

A great 4th birthday for sure!
