Weekend recap

May 21, 2013

Our weekend was good…and not so good.  It went a little something like this…

Saturday morning Robert and Maxwell went out to a CF Charity walk and a had a big time.  Robert said Maxwell probably ran for about 2 miles of the 5K!  By the time they got home, they were hot and sweaty.  Nothing a little shower and a shave can’t fix!  🙂

That afternoon, we worked a bit in the yard, put out some fires…

and then went out to a nice little dinner…

Sunday morning Robert and I both needed to be up at church at 10:00 for Sunday School teacher training (we’re volunteering to ‘teach’ 3 Sundays this summer).  That meant that both boys had to be up at church at 10:00 too.  That meant that Spencer’s usual 2 hour morning nap got cut to 40 minutes.  Ouch.  But, we made it and Spencer did fine his first time in the nursery.

sunday school

After church, my little helper went with me to Home Depot to get some annuals for planting.

HD helper

Look at that smiling face!  Man, I love that kid…despite what happened next!  After Home Depot, I got to work digging in the dirt to plant all of the flowers.  Maxwell helped for a bit and then went inside to eat lunch.  Robert then tried to put him down for his nap and…it didn’t go well.  Maxwell has been on a BIG Momma kick lately and only wanted me to put him down.  Unfortunately, I was outside covered in dirt and just couldn’t get cleaned up to go rock him.  Besides, he needs to learn that Robert can put him down just as good as I can.  Well, lesson not learned.  Robert finally just had to put him in the bed and walk out and Maxwell proceeded to throw the single biggest fit we’ve ever seen him throw.  He was so loud he woke Spencer up who had only been asleep for 45 minutes.  So, not only did Spencer’s morning nap get cut short, so did his afternoon nap.  double ouch. After a full hour of SCREAMING, Robert went back into Maxwell’s room and, well, let’s just say things were a mess.  literally.  Not only that, he had managed to get his leg stuck in the slats of the crib.  It was rough, ya’ll.  I’ve never seen him so hysterical.  After getting him calmed down, we decided the  nap wasn’t going to happen and that we all needed to get out of the house.  So, we loaded up the stroller and (against Robert’s wishes) ended up at the local library street party.  Even though Maxwell had been a pill, I couldn’t deny him the chance to see a firetruck spray water out of its hose!!

Watching them raise up the ladder!

Happy boy!

The fire hose then sprayed all the kids with water from the top of the ladder!  We watched from the side but still managed to get a little wet!  That was some serious spray!

It really was a neat event with all sorts of fun things to do.  They even had a big digger out there!

This digger scooped up something good!  🙂

Here’s the 3 of us getting scooped up…with one set of closed eyes!  🙂

They also had a little train of cars that we got to ride.  Maxwell picked the orange car, of course!  🙂

He kept asking for an “ice keen” so I obliged… stupidly.  I had totally forgotten about the 3 powdered donuts they had given him at church that morning.  He ate some of both an orange push pop and a bubble gum flavored ice cream bar.

ice keen

By the time we left, he was beyond exhausted, hot, dehydrated and full of sugar.  He whined most of the walk home until finally passing out like his brother…

asleep

When we got home, he tried to eat some dinner but was honestly just too tired.  I think the heat, the sugar and the hour he spent screaming at the top of his lungs in his bed honestly made him sick.  Yes, sick.  After puking up all that ice cream and most of his lunch (joy) I got him tucked into bed at 6:15.  Poor Spencer, who had been denied two good naps that day, cried for about 45 minutes in his bed before finally conking out at 7:30.  These two sweet boys were just pushed beyond their limit…and don’t even talk to me about Mom and Dad being pushed to their limit!  goodness.  Sunday was maybe the single hardest day of parenting I’ve had yet.  But, we survived and learned an important lesson – naps are essential for us!!

Hey, you take the good, you take the bad.  Onward and upward!!

Spencer’s baptism

May 15, 2013

We had Spencer baptized on Sunday and it was such a special day.  All of our family came into town and helped us celebrate our sweet, baby boy!  I didn’t pick up my real camera the entire weekend and came away from the day Sunday with a bunch of “just ok” iphone pictures. I can’t believe I didn’t even get one decent one of Spencer in his outfit!  Not to worry, I had a photographer come after the church service to take a ton of pics of Spencer and the whole family.  Can’t wait to get them in a few weeks!

Here are the shots I did get…

Maxwell ready to go in his knee socks and saddle shoes.  There are only so many chances a momma has to dress her little boy in outfits like this and I took full advantage!  and, yes, there was a little bribery involved in convincing him to wear the socks!  🙂

saddle shoes

Also, when did he get so tall and skinny?  This little boy does not have one ounce of baby fat left.  He’s just all legs, knees and elbows now!

Marching into the church and ready to go!

Who did we see when we walked up?  LuLu! Maxwell was one happy little boy!

We then went into the parlor room to get Spencer ready and wait for the service to start.  Here’s a blurry pic of our little family…

and a grainy pic of me and Maxwell…

and a not so good picture of Spencer with his adorable, chunky legs in some knee socks of his own!!

spencer baptism

The legs of his bubble needed to be pulled up and his knee socks were a little bunchy there but, don’t worry, that all got fixed before the service!  This is the same outfit that Maxwell wore for his baptism.  You can see all of those pics here and here!

Spencer did great during the service.  When Reverend Sharps was holding him Spencer just kept looking up at his face and reaching out to touch his chin.  So precious!  Maxwell was a little …how shall I say it?… energetic during the service!  But, overall he acted just fine and was a cute little 2.5 year old boy.

Here are two videos if you really care to see…

Right after the service, the photographer took a bunch of pics of the boys, me and Robert right outside the church.  She then came back to the house and took lots of shots of our whole family together.  I’m so excited to have those!  After the pictures were done, it was time to eat and play!  A big thanks to GJ and Susu for helping with the food.

A few pictures of everyone enjoying the day!

Family!

May 14, 2013

For Spencer’s baptism on Sunday, we had all sorts of family trickle in all weekend long! It was SO fun to get everyone together and let all the cousins play, play, play! First in was GJ and Daddo. They got here on Wednesday and Maxwell could not have been more excited to see them! My mom went with me to pick him up from school and when he saw her he just said, “heeeeey GJ” and then ran up to give her a big hug. It was pretty much the cutest thing ever. Maxwell then couldn’t wait to get GJ home so he could “jump on her.” Yep, jump on her. I have no idea where he has gotten this but every time I talk about GJ, Maxwell talks about how he wants to jump on her. So, as soon as he got her to the house, he made her lay down on the couch and he jumped on her! Poor GJ! She’s a good sport!!

GJ jump

Daddo got some good time in loving on sweet Spencer that afternoon…

My mom played nanny for the boys on Thursday as Susan was out of town and I took a lunch break to go to Zoe’s with them. They were pretty good lunch dates…

GJ and MBB

GJ then drove to Arkansas to pick up Susu and bring her to Birmingham. We were all so happy she made the trip!

susu and spencer

and here is Susu declaring that Spencer’s hair does indeed have a red tint to it. He seems pleased with that idea!  We’ll see!

Keath, Jen, Delaney and Nate got into town on Friday night and we had a full day of fun on Saturday!

mbb and delaney

GJ and Keath took Maxwell, Delaney and Nate over to the tot lot and ran into this on the way…

pink firetruck

Oh boy! I don’t think there could have been anything more perfect for this crew considering Maxwell’s love of firetrucks and Delaney’s love of all things pink!!

The three amigos then had lunch together…and all had to sit on the same side of the table, of course!

All that playing at the tot lot makes you thirsty!

Spencer was being well tended to by Keath!

After naps, everyone came back over to the house to celebrate a very special birthday!

Delaney turns 4 TODAY! Happy Birthday Delaney! We celebrated with a little fire truck riding…

and cake!

cake

What comes after cake? Presents of course! Maxwell was a big (and largely unwanted) help to Delaney in opening her presents! This pictures makes me laugh…

tiara sneak

Delaney had just put on the pink tiara that came with her new Ballerina Barbie and Maxwell snatched it off her head before she could even say “princess!” ha!

Maxwell then checked out her new Barbie dolls…

barbies

“Wait a minute, these aren’t trucks!”

But, he ultimately decided they might be fun to play with for a little bit…until Delaney rightfully took them back! 🙂

barbie

Maxwell wasn’t too upset though because he got a special present from Susu and GJ even though it wasn’t his birthday (GJ’s good like that!). He got a T-ball set and he, Nate and Delaney had the most fun playing with it after dinner. Batter up!

It was such a fun day! These cuties got lots of love from GJ…

delaney, gj, maxwell

and even gave each other a little love! “We like each other!”

Funny little kids.

A BIG thank you to Keath and Jen for making the long trip! We loved having you here and Maxwell hasn’t stopped talked about “NateNLaney!” 🙂
