Boot camp

October 2, 2020

Well, you never know what’s going to happen around here. Spencer has to go to boot camp for a week!

boot

His foot has been bothering him for a few weeks. He finally started mentioning it to me about a week ago and I noticed him limping around…a lot. He was really in pain. He made it through his sports but we were having to load him up with Motrin and ice it down. Not good! We went to the orthopedist on Wednesday and it turns out Spencer has an extra bone in his foot! I always knew he was special!! Official diagnosis – He has an accessory navicular which is an extra bone or piece of cartilage located at the inner side of the foot just above the arch and is incorporated within the posterior tibial tendon. From my understanding, that little piece of bone can cause the tendon to get really tight during times of growth and times of lots of activities – especially activities in non-supportive shoes like cleats! Check check! Spencer is now getting a nice pair of orthotics to go into his cleats and is wearing this boot for a week to force him to rest his foot. Hopefully after being in the boot for a few days we can get him to a place where he can play in his first baseball game on Sunday. Go Yankees!

I think he felt pretty cool walking back into school that day with his Iron Man leg!  🙂  One other thing that just made me kind of laugh…and kind of cringe…was when the doctor asked what sports Spencer played. We said tennis, golf, flag football, basketball, and baseball. He said “great, which ones are you playing right now?” Ummm…all of them?! Just made me realize how much we have piled onto our plates and maybe we need to rethink some things. Of course, the doctor also said, “I’d rather see that than seeing a kid only focused on one sport at this age.” Valid point too.

After my adventure with Spencer I then got to take Samantha to the dermatologist to get a wart frozen off of her foot. Not surprisingly, Spencer was a better sport about his boot than Samantha was about the freezing blast on her foot!

Parent Child tournament

October 1, 2020

Last weekend after Robert played in The Gam golf tournament all day Friday and Saturday, he got to play in the most important tournament on Sunday – the Parent Child Tournament! Check out these golfers ready to dominate the course!

golf

They had a good time and, despite early warnings that carts might not be available, got to get a cart which led to much less complaining by the younger two members of the team and a much more enjoyable time for the older member of the team!

Spencer and Robert placed 11th which won him some money at the pro shop! Woohoo!

Proud of all of my golfers!

While the boys were golfing, Samantha and I hit up the pool one last time before it closes for the season.

The water was reeeeeeally cold but Samantha’s buddy Violet was there and they had a blast as always.

We followed it up with Sunday night dinner all together on the patio. The perfect ending to a fun weekend!

Flag and baseball

September 25, 2020

Not leaving Spencer out in the sports season – he’s playing flag football and fall baseball! Flag is pretty laid back but lots of fun…

even when you have to play in the rain!

He has a good baseball team this year with some buddies so we’re looking forward to games starting soon on the new turf fields! fancy!

Note – that is not a picture of the fancy new turf fields! ha!

The boys are also doing golf and tennis weekly…

and Samantha also does dance and tumble. What happened to enjoying the downtime of quarantine and promising to never be overscheduled again?! Oh well, these kids love to play so that’s what we’re doing!!

Happy Friday!

I will be sad when the weather gets colder and we can’t enjoy our patio dinners. But, for now I sure am enjoying them! I think everyone else is too!

Also, want to see my birthday present to GJ (and early birthday present to Daddo)?

Pretty neat, huh? Can’t wait to see them hanging in Naples or Birmingham!
