As I mentioned in November, Maxwell and his robotics team earned a bid to the state competition at Auburn. It was over President’s Day weekend and turned out to be a really cool experience! We made a full weekend out of it and stayed at Lake Martin with friends whose son was also competing at the competition.
The boys got up and headed to Auburn bright and early Saturday morning.
Thomas, Maxwell, Ms. Beidleman, Walker, Jack, and Ms. Mapes!
The girls and Spencer came a bit later. We watched the matches but also managed to get out for some lunch and sunshine. It was a beautiful day!
What a crew!
It was a long day for the boys inside the coliseum. It was a full day of matches with lots of sound effects, jokes from the announcers, and plenty of sitting around. But, the event was extremely well run and efficient! No surprise there.
The spectators did managed to get outside and enjoy the sunshine between matches.
All that sitting and watching was definitely made better by cotton candy!
The merch was pretty funny too…
And some of my favorites of the announcer jokes…
“What was the robot’s favorite dance? The roomba!” hahaha!
“You’d think french fries came from France, but no. They came from grease!” hahaha!
Maxwell and his team didn’t make it to the finals but they had a great day. They learned a lot, had some really good matches driving their robot, and took in the full experience. I’m so proud of them!
The school was pretty proud of them too!
Maxwell is excited to do it again next year and try to qualify for worlds!
